Gender Equality and Social Inclusion Director, Feed the Future Nepal USAID Agricultural Transformation At Banyan Global

Banyan Global is recruiting a Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI) Director for a five-year anticipated USAID/Nepal project focused on transforming Nepal’s agricultural sector. Specifically, the project will support strengthening the market systems of strategic value chains by aligning agricultural development with efforts to promote food security, improve nutrition, and build the resilience of rural farming communities, especially to risks posed by climate change. The project is prioritizing inclusive economic growth efforts.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of national GESI experts.
  • Provide technical leadership to ensure that project activities address women, youth, and marginalized (WYM) populations as identified by the project.
  • Ensure that WYM considerations are integrated and mainstreamed across the project, including design; implementation; monitoring, evaluation, and learning; communications; and operations such as staff training, materials, policies and procedures.
  • Conduct activity-level GESI Analysis and Action Plan. Monitor GESI Action Plan and ensure the integration of related elements in Activity-level Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning Plan (AMELP).
  • Review and provide input to project workplans, with attention to WYM dimensions of technical activities and operations, and discuss WYM issues and priorities with project senior management and other technical specialists.
  • Provide strategic technical guidance on WYM integration to key personnel, project staff, government representatives, and project partners and stakeholders.
  • Design and facilitate trainings.
  • Develop tools and resources such as manuals, guides, infographics, and factsheets.
  • Lead quarterly, annual, and final project reporting.
  • Document and share best practices including through internal and external reflection and learning engagements.
  • Oversee the development of communications materials such as success and impact stories.
  • Engage available and active women’s, youth, and other networks.
  • Maintain an up-to-date and thorough understanding of WYM issues related to project components.
  • Pursue opportunities to promote the equitable professional development of WYM in assisted firms, associations, and institutions.

Qualifications

  • Nepali nationality.
  • Fluency in English and Nepali is mandatory. Fluency in other regional languages such as Acchami, Awadhi, Bhojpuri, Doteli, Gurung, Hindi, Magar, Maithili, Newari, Tamang, Tharu, and Urdu is preferred.
  • Master’s degree in international development, gender, agriculture, or another related field.
  • Seven or more years of experience working on gender and/or youth integration initiatives, including at least three years specifically on agricultural activities. Experience in rice, maize, lentil, vegetable, and goat value chains advantageous.
  • Experience working on USAID and/or other international donor-funded development programs.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of various inclusive economic empowerment approaches, frameworks, and research methodologies advantageous.
  • Experience working with and leading programming for populations such as women, youth, and persons belonging to Tarai/Madhesh, Hill Dalits, Madhesi Dalits, Mountain/Hill Janajati, and Muslim communities.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders, including project staff, USAID, government representatives, private sector, civil society organizations, farming cooperatives and interest groups, and individuals.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English, including synthesis skills.
  • Experience developing inputs, coordinating on, and managing workplans.
  • Strong monitoring and evaluation skills, including experience with the selection and monitoring of effective gender and youth-related indicators.
  • Experience conducting an activity-level gender analysis and action plan and managing implementation of recommendations.
  • Capacity to be original and creative in strategies to integrate WYM considerations into non-gender related programming.
  • Awareness of DEIA principles with application preferred.
