General Practitioner- Greek Nationals only At Syrian American Medical Society Foundation

BACKGROUND

Syrian American Medical Society (SAMS) Foundation is an international medical organization working in the front line of relief actions in the crisis of Syria, as well as neighboring countries and beyond in order to alleviate suffering and save lives. SAMS is one of the most active, reputable and trustworthy international NGOs in the Middle East countries and Greece. In 2017, SAMS provided more than 3.5 medical services, 3.2 out of them in Syria. SAMS also supports refugees accommodated in neighboring countries and in Greece with psychosocial support activities and medical care, pediatric and maternal support, medical training sessions, treatment projects via different uses of art etc.

SCOPE

SAMS Greece is looking for a national dedicated humanitarian aid professional to serve as a General Practitioner in Greece. Under the supervision of the Country Director, this position will be based in Athens, with daily transfers within Attica by vehicle of the Organization, to assist in the development of activities. In collaboration with other local and international, medical and non-medical, NGOs operating in Greece, as well as with the Organization’s headquarters in Greece, the actions will concern people from the refugee and migration populations, as well as Greeks with vulnerabilities and/or with limited income.

COMPETENCES

  • Application of medical knowledge and skills in the diagnosis and treatment of both children and adults
  • Management and training of the medical team
  • Ensuring comprehensive medical care through emergency services, child-patients and outpatient clinics of dermatology and pathology
  • Proposal for modifications and best practices to the current management of pediatric, dermatological and pathological care
  • Quality assurance of care by giving continuous training to the medical / paramedical team
  • Medical information provision for patients and their families
  • Ensure that confidentiality and security are maintained
  • Advice on referral process
  • Contribute to data analysis, monitoring and reporting in order to improve the quality of medical care

REQUIREMENTS

  • Doctor’s degree with General Practitioner specialization or continuing specialization, with at least three years of professional experience in pediatrics, dermatology and/or pathology
  • Official license to practice medicine in Greece
  • Recent clinical experience (at least six months in the last 24 months)
  • Fluency in Greek and English
  • Teamwork, willingness, adaptability and ability to work in a multicultural framework
  • Flexibility and ability to manage stress
  • Ability to train internal teams and other Bodies
  • Computer skills: Knowledge of MS Office, Internet
  • Driving license – category B (city car)
  • Criminal record status: clean

  • Scheduling-plan flexibility as needed
  • Role responsibilities can be adapted/evolved as needed
  • The challenges of the role will be met by the whole team. All members (both international and local staff) will provide technical support, including comprehensive instructions, SOPs and protocols.
