GENERATOR MECHANIC, GS-4 AT United Nations

The United Nations Global Service Centre (UNGSC) provides critical Supply Chain, Geospatial, Information and Telecommunications Technologies services and Training to all peacekeeping and special political missions around the world as well as to other UN Offices, Agencies Funds and Programs.

This position is located in the Generator Cell, Solution Factory, Innovation and Infrastructure Support, Planning & Sourcing Support Section, Supply Chain Service at the United Nations Global Service Centre, Brindisi, Italy.

The incumbent provides efficient technical assistance to a senior engineering staff and to other users in support of activities related to the design, development and execution of various engineering services related to generator mechanics services in UNGSC.

The Generator Mechanic is under the general supervision of the Chief Generator Cell.

Responsibilities

Within delegated authority, the Generator Mechanic will be responsible for the following duties:
• Supports the installations on small and large capacity generator sets and related equipment.
• Assists the team for scheduled and routine maintenance, emergency repairs and overhaul of generators (static/mobile), including the support in installation of auxiliary fuel systems, such as tanks, transfer pumps and pit works.
• Provides support to the contractors during installation and maintenance of generator sets and related equipment within mission.
• Responsible for applying engineering standards and practices in the installation and maintenance of generators or equipment.
• Responsible for the safe and efficient use of tools and specialized equipment.
• Assists with carrying out scheduled periodic and emergency maintenance services on all the installations and equipment, including office, medical and specialized equipment.
• Assist with the day-to-day activities of the Workshop, including handling assets with forklift
• Assists with the collection and analysis of data as well as preparation of data presentations and reports for information sharing, responding to queries, knowledge management, planning and decision making.
• Assists with visualizations and updating information material such as web pages or brochures.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Education

High school diploma or equivalent is required.

A valid national driving license is required.

Forklift license (min. 3 Ton) is desirable.

Technical diploma either from a Technical College/Trade School or through an accepted national apprenticeship program is desirable.

Work Experience

A minimum of three (3) years of experience in inspecting, managing, disposing, maintaining, repair and servicing of generators or other equipment in an international environment is required. The minimum years of relevant experience is reduced to one (1) for candidates who possess a first-level university degree or higher.

Experience operating a forklift is desirable.

Experience in the use of MS Office is desirable.
