Role & Responsibilities
- Data Collection and Management
- Collect, process, and manage spatial data from satellite imagery by using QGIS and Earth map software, and other sources.
- Establish and maintain a geospatial database for the program.
- Spatial Analysis and Mapping
- Develop high-resolution maps to identify vulnerable areas, land use patterns, and biodiversity hotspots.
- Conduct spatial analyses to support disaster risk assessment and mitigation planning.
- Remote Sensing Applications
- Process and analyze remote sensing data to monitor environmental changes, land cover patterns, drought conditions and deforestation
- Provide inputs for climate vulnerability assessments using remote sensing data.
- Capacity Building
- Train program staff and stakeholders on GIS and remote sensing tools and methodologies.
- Develop user-friendly tools and workflows for field teams to collect and visualize geospatial data.
- Reporting and Documentation
- Prepare detailed technical reports and presentations based on spatial analyses.
- Document workflows and methodologies to ensure knowledge transfer and continuity.
- Collaboration and Stakeholder Engagement
- Collaborate with local authorities, NGOs, and academic institutions to ensure alignment with national and regional priorities.
- Provide geospatial insights to support community-based conservation and development activities.
Qualifications and Experience
- Advanced degree in GIS, Remote Sensing, Geography, Environmental Science, or a related field.
- At least 5 years of professional experience in GIS and remote sensing, preferably in environmental conservation or DRR projects.
- Proficiency in GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS) and remote sensing tools (e.g., ERDAS Imagine, Google Earth Engine).
- Experience in programming languages for spatial analysis (e.g., Python, R) is an advantage.
- Strong understanding of climate adaptation, biodiversity, and disaster risk management concepts.
- Proven ability to work in challenging environments and with multidisciplinary teams.
