About Coalition on Violence Against Women (COVAW).
COVAW is a national non-profit organization dedicated to women’s rights, established in 1995. The organization was formed following a workshop conducted by Women in Law and Development in Africa (WiLDAF), which identified two critical issues: Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) and the insufficient representation of women in key leadership positions. The workshop highlighted the necessity of forming a coalition to address these challenges, which led to the creation of COVAW. Since its inception, COVAW has focused on “breaking the silence on VAWG” and has worked to influence the policy, legal, and practice landscape in Kenya and beyond.
COVAW envisions a society where women and girls have equal rights and freedoms and can thrive in safe environments. Its mission is to advocate for women’s and girls’ rights to be free from all forms of violence. COVAW is guided by core values of respect, integrity, solidarity, and a commitment to improving the lives of its primary target group: women and girls.

About the “Ailepu” Project.
COVAW, with support from The Girl Generation-Africa-Led Movement to End FGM/C, is implementing a project on ending FGM/C in Narok County titled Ailepu (Maa for Arise). The project aims to accelerate community-based efforts towards ending FGM by triggering an uprising of a diverse and inclusive youth-led End-of-GM movement in Narok that will influence and shape evidence-based End-FGM campaigns geared towards sustainable interventions.

About the Grantee Capacity Building Workshop.
The Ailepu Program focuses on collaborating with grassroots organizations to adapt standard implementation processes and strive for long-term sustainability and scalability of the program’s impact by enhancing their overall operational capacities. COVAW, as an anchor grantee in this program, has been tasked with strengthening the operational and program implementation capacities of four local implementing partners in the Suswa East area: Ewang’an CBO, Afya Afrika CBO, Murua Girls CBO, and Kikuiyan CBO.
The initial Organizational Capacity Assessment conducted at the onset of the program identified four main domains that cut across the four CBOs and emerged strongly as crucial areas of focus: 1. governance and leadership; 2. finance, Operations, and administration; 3. program management and delivery; 4. monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability, and Learning.
COVAW has since worked hand in hand with these organizations to co-develop key organizational policies and streamline financial management processes within them. It focuses on employing coaching and one-on-one mentorships as key capacity-building strategies. As recorded from ongoing progress monitoring, significant progress has been made so far.
To strengthen our efforts and build on the work we have already started with the implementing partners, we are seeking the support of a qualified facilitator to conduct a four-day comprehensive capacity-building workshop on Governance and leadership.
