Médecins du Monde, an international solidarity activist medical association, has been committed for more than 40 years to treating the most vulnerable populations here and there, to reporting on the obstacles observed regarding access to care, to obtaining sustainable improvements in health for all policies.
An independent association, we act beyond care by denouncing attacks on dignity and human rights and by fighting to improve the situation of precarious populations.
In France and internationally in nearly 30 countries, our actions aim to facilitate access to the health system by working on 5 priority themes structuring our fights and our advocacy: emergencies and crises, sexual and reproductive health, reduction risks, migration, rights and health and environmental health.
After implementing an HIV-AIDS program until 2000, MdM returned to the Central African Republic in July 2013 with mobile emergency clinics and then support for health facilities in Bangui and the Ombella-M’Poko, in conjunction with national partners. From 2019, the MdM emergency unit is reorienting the strategy of the mission in CAR in order to extend its activities throughout the country while maintaining its capacity to respond to emergencies and shocks.
Thus, from 2019 to 2022, Médecins du Monde set up a mobile emergency response clinic deployed throughout the country, in connection with alerts emanating from the RRM or the health cluster with funding from the Humanitarian Fund until March 2023.
In accordance with Médecins du Monde’s strategic priorities, support for primary health services (PHS) is a gateway to providing sexual and reproductive health care. Thus, in addition to the treatment of the most common pathologies (ARI, IDA, malaria, etc.), Médecins du Monde supports the implementation of pre- and post-natal consultations, family planning consultations and treatment victims of Gender-Related Violence (GBV) and incomplete abortions. A mental health and psychosocial support diagnosis has just been carried out in order to better define the intervention strategy and adapt activities to the needs of the population and the Central African context.
The intervention strategy for the coming period provides for a consolidation of the project located in Bouca (financed by GFFO until June 2025) with emphasis on strengthening the quality of interventions, accountability to communities, development new actions aimed at improving coverage of access to basic services for vulnerable populations affected by new shocks. It will also be a question of working from 2024 on the exit strategy by favoring actions with the highest added value in terms of empowerment of the supported FOSA but also of developing new projects in the provinces and the capital.
