Grants Manager, USAID Civil Society and Media Activity “Aawaz”, Nepal
Proposal Objective:
Social Impact is preparing a proposal for an upcoming five-year Civil Society and Media Activity “Aawaz” project. The project will improve the effectiveness of civil society organizations and media actors, with priority at the municipal level, in strengthening public and private sector accountability, advancing and protecting fundamental freedoms, and improving equitable access to higher quality public services. The project is expected to begin in May 2022.
Position Description:
SI is seeking a Grants Manager to play a critical role in ensuring that project grants are successfully implemented in full compliance with USAID and Social Impact regulations and policies. This will be a full-time position, based in Kathmandu, for the duration of the contract.
**Please note: This is a local position. Only candidates with Nepalese citizenship will be considered.
Responsibilities:
- Assist with identifying and assessing prospective grantees.
- Analyze and evaluate activity applications, proposals, and agreement/award documents to ensure consistency with program goals and objectives.
- Analyze grant budgets and cost estimates for reasonableness and consistency.
- Work closely with the monitoring and evaluation team to ensure grant data (on beneficiaries, outputs, outcomes, and quantitative and qualitative indicators) is captured in a timely, consistent manner.
- Engage with the research and analysis being developed to design evidence-based program activities.
- Build grantees’ capacity in financial management; reporting; and “telling their story” about grant successes, challenges, and lessons learned.
- Ensure grant implementation is conducted in full compliance with all relevant requirements and donor regulations, and follow up, as needed, to provide guidance on grant policy and interpretation.
- Prepare and maintain supporting grant documentation in compliance with all applicable procedures and policies, including assisting grantees with adhering to these requirements.
- In coordination with finance and procurement staff, identify appropriate special conditions for grantees with limited foreign donor experience.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree required; graduate degree preferred.
- Minimum of four years of experience managing donor-related international development grant portfolios.
- Up-to-date understanding of political and social conditions in Nepal.
- Creativity and flexibility to manage grant compliance issues and coordinate effectively with other program staff (e.g., in finance and technical advisors) and grantees in the administration of the grants portfolio.
- Ability to maintain a rapid pace of work.
- Demonstrated leadership, versatility, and integrity.
- Ability/willingness to travel as needed, sometimes to remote locations and under challenging conditions.
- Proven ability to work in a professional and cordial manner with fellow staff members, visitors, and partner institutions including international and local NGOs, governmental entities, support organizations, and the general public.
- Fluency in written and spoken English required.
- Familiarity with fixed-amount awards or simplified, standard, in-kind, and limited-scope grant agreement types preferred.
- Experience on USAID projects with grants components preferred.
- Experience working with Civil Society Organizations preferred.
