Grants Programmes Fellow At ProtectDefenders.eu

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

Based at the Secretariat’s office in Brussels and reporting directly to the Senior Coordinator, the Grants Programmes Fellow will support the dynamic and energetic team of the Secretariat. Their primary responsibility is to assist in tasks related to the management and administration of grant programmes implemented by ProtectDefenders.eu, offering financial support to individual Human Rights Defenders (HRDs) facing risk, as well as to at-risk Human Rights Defenders’ communities and organizations.

MAIN TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Monitoring the grant programmes inboxes and assisting in categorizing incoming messages, with a particular focus on identifying and addressing urgent requests;
  • Preparing summaries and assisting in analysis of applications received from HRDs and organisations at risks;
  • Engaging with secure communication to address general inquiries pertaining to the grant programmes;
  • Following up on the grants awarded, monitoring the status of progress of grants and liaising with stakeholders to receive intermediate and final narrative and financial reports;
  • Contributing to the maintenance of an updated database;
  • Gathering relevant information and preparing datasets for further analysis;
  • Participating in meetings, preparing summary and briefing notes;
  • Working collaboratively with the ProtectDefenders.eu team and undertake other relevant tasks specified by Senior Coordinator and Head of the Secretariat.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

  • Bachelor’s degree in law, international relations, social sciences or related field.
  • Demonstrable interest or previous experience in programmes/project management.
  • Familiarity, sensitivity, and knowledge of issues related to human rights, human rights defenders, civil society, or EU institutions.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and one of the following langagues: French, Spanish, Russian or Arabic.
  • Excellent drafting and editing skills.
  • Database management skills.

  • Attention to detail and accuracy in all tasks.
  • Ability to adapt to multidisciplinary work in the environment of a multicultural team.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to multitask and meet deadlines.

STARTING DATE & CONDITIONS

  • Preferable starting date: mid January 2024
  • The candidate will be offered a CIP contract for a period of 6 months which could be renewed for additional 6 months under certain circumstances.
  • 38 hours per week. The fellow can dedicate the equivalent of one working day per week for training and learning activities.
  • Remuneration of approximately 900 euros per month.
  • Work insurance, meal vouchers, and monthly local transportation.
  • The candidate needs to be based in Belgium and have a valid work permit.
  • Hybrid workplace model: in-office and home based work
