SUMMARY

The Specialist Sr., Grants Writer will be responsible for preparing the technical narrative (and its corresponding annexes) for the grant proposals assigned by his/her supervisor.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Upon assignment of a grant funding opportunity:
  • The Grants Writer will review the Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO), call for proposals (CFP) or any other information that refers to the requirements of the live or upcoming grant proposals.
  • Informed by this review, the Grants Writer will prepare a detailed outline of the proposal narrative (and its related annexes). Each section of the detailed outline must include specific writing guidance and/or questions that the proposal preparation team must respond within a given timeline, The questions and guidance will be informed by the information requested by the donor and by the proposal’s evaluation criteria.
  • Using the write ups and responses of the proposal preparation team, the Grants Writer will prepare the first/yellow draft of the proposal narrative (and its related annexes) and will present it to the proposal preparation team and its reviewers.
  • The Grants Writer will revise the yellow/first draft informed by the written and verbal feedback of the proposal preparation team and/or proposal reviewer.
  • The Grants Writer will implement similar roles for the second/red draft of the proposal narrative (and its related annexes).
  • Finally, the Grants Writer will be responsible of copyediting and finalizing the proposal narrative (and its related annexes) for submission to the door. Alternatively, the Grants Writer will identify, engage and supervise external sources for these services.

QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE

Required

  • 9 years of grants acquisition experience, especially with US-based government, foundations and corporation donors, and/or with UN, multi-lateral and bilateral donors.
  • This grants acquisition experience must include proposal writing on a part- or full-time basis. A writing sample of a proposal written with significant participation of the applicant will be asked to all candidates.
  • Fluent written and spoken English, with additional proficiency on either Spanish or French,
  • Excellent writing skills of proposals, i.e. concise, appealing and clear writing that complies with the language and expectations of the donor. These writing skills will be tested for short listed candidates.
  • Organized, detail-oriented, team player, self-starter and results-oriented individual.
  • Ability to coordinate multiple projects simultaneously, work well under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent presentation, public speaking, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong computer skills, with familiarity in using Microsoft Office suite applications (particularly Word and PowerPoint).
  • Ability to travel (25% of time)

EDUCATION

Bachelor’s degree in specific discipline and/or equivalent relevant experience. Master’s degree preferred.
