Location: Washington, D.C. USA

Reports to: Director, Advocacy Mobilization

Required experience: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience (eight years). In addition to education or education equivalent, requires five years of work experience in advocacy or grassroots community organizing. College-level biblical training and experience working in the office of an elected official preferred.

Work Authorization: Must be authorized to work in the U.S.A. for any employer.

Travel: Up to 15% of time both in domestic and international locations, including fragile contexts.

01 The Job You believe in the power of individuals working together to make a difference! As World Vision’s Grassroots Organizing and Capacity Building Manager you will help build and manage a national volunteer advocacy network composed of existing and potential donors designed to result in significant investment of time, talent and treasure in support of World Vision’s work. Facilitate and nurture transformational relationships between advocates and their members of Congress and congressional staff through education and resource development. Build local communities of advocates among like-minded people with the goal of passing priority policy legislation leading to increased World Vision grant opportunities.

02 Your Responsibilities Will Include:

  • Provide strategic direction and leadership for World Vision grassroots Advocacy work, ensuring all advocacy action and participation goals are achieved or exceeded annually.
  • Build and nurture strategic relationships with high performing advocate volunteer leaders in strategic congressional districts throughout the United States with the goal of generating action (personal meetings, letters, phone calls, op-eds, and letters to editors) in support of key World Vision policy/grant priorities.
  • Lead and participate in the leadership of training events designed to deepen understanding of the role of advocacy in World Vision’s work and equip advocates for effective relational advocacy. Speak publicly to internal and external audiences about the role of advocacy and its importance to the achievement of World Vision.
  • Create content for advocacy communications and training materials. Coordinate with the Advocacy Communications team to ensure sufficient resources exist to equip volunteers for high-impact advocacy. Manage all volunteer resource production and contribute to content as necessary.
  • Collaborate with external partner organizations to increase advocacy impact. Track congressional policies, decisions and processes to make strategic changes as needed.
  • Measure and evaluate annual advocate engagement and effectiveness, ensuring strategic goals are met.
  • Work collaboratively with the larger International Programs Group when assigned to work as a member of a team.

04 Education and Experience Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience (eight years).   • Computer Skills: Demonstrates effective computer skills, including use of Microsoft Word (highly proficient), Microsoft Excel (highly proficient), Word Press (highly proficient), MailChimp (proficient in creating and sending emails in wyswyg environment) as well as uploading and analyzing data). “Quick learner” on other various software applications and databases used in work efforts.
  • Proficient Oral and Written Communication: Effectively expresses ideas, thoughts and concepts verbally and in writing, using correct grammar, organization and structure, and effective presentation media and techniques.
