Program Summary:

Project HOPE is providing humanitarian assistance to internally displaced and conflict-affected persons throughout the Gaza Strip, Occupied Palestinian Territory. The portfolio in the Gaza Strip focuses on Health, Mental Health, Protection, and WASH programming in partnership with local NGOs. Our activities include the operation of several primary and sexual reproductive health clinics operated by local Project HOPE staff.

This position will be based in Gaza. Local Nationals Only.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Gynecologist is responsible for performing consultations in clinics to diagnose, treat and manage patients according to medical standards and protocols.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide health care related to gynecology and obstetrics to patients, including prevention, diagnosis and treatment in line with clinical guidelines and hygiene protocols.
  • Support the management of the Maternity clinics in cooperation with Senior Country Team Leadership.
  • Interpret test results, discuss treatment and medication, and advise patients on issues pertaining to reproductive and maternal health.
  • Ensure the implementation of Project HOPE clinical policies, tools, guidelines and protocols related to gynecology and obstetrics in order to minimize clinical risk and to extend best reproductive practices.
  • Determine when patients should be discharged or transferred, ensuring referrals are managed efficiently to minimize complications.
  • Control the rational distribution of medicine and equipment; ensure sterilization and good maintenance of medical equipment, report any malfunctioning to supervisor.
  • Keep the patient and family informed about the illness and provide appropriate explanations about the treatment to follow; verify understanding to ensure informed consent and adherence to treatment.
  • Ensure general hygiene standards and universal precautions are always followed and implement and monitor actions to reduce bio-hazard risks and improve infection control.
  • Ensure that medical decisions are made with the highest level of integrity and ethics according to the professional Code of Conduct.
  • Ensure midwife and nursing staff have clear objectives, receive mentorship, and participate in capacity building opportunities.
  • Ensure data collected is accurate and submit reports according to schedule.
  • Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor degree in Medicine, with gynecology/obstetric specialization required. Post graduation in Medicine education is desirable.
  • One year experience in working in public or private nursing colleges, Hospitals, experience with other NGOs, desirable.
  • Understanding humanitarian work / having worked with vulnerable populations.
  • Knowledge of the environments, understanding of health system in Gaza and social protection system
  • Have compassion and a good bedside manner.
  • Capacities to communicate with colleagues and staff in a clear and concise manner.
  • Fluency in Arabic Language is required, English highly desirable.

  • This position is based in Gaza. Given the current conflict conditions, candidate must be able to work in a rapidly changing environment.
  • Position will be in resource-deprived environment with austere living conditions.
  • Travel for extended periods may be by air and/or other modes of transportation.
  • Project HOPE employees may be required to travel or work in countries where working conditions are classified as “hardship.”
