Context:

The Private Sector Partnerships Division (PSP) sits within the Office of Partnerships, Advocacy and Communications under the overall oversight of the Director General. PSP builds partnerships with the private sector that enable IOM’s strategic priorities and engage the private sector as a key stakeholder in migration through impactful and innovative partnerships. PSP leads strategic outreach and engagement with the private sector and provides Headquarters, Regional and Country Offices with assistance and expertise relating to initiating, establishing and maintaining partnerships with the private sector. PSP is responsible for the development and implementation of IOM’s Private Sector Strategy which provides a framework for how IOM engages with the private sector to support safe, orderly and regular migration. PSP oversees engagement with the private sector, establishes and coordinates IOM’s private sector partnerships due diligence process, builds staff capacity in private sector partnership-building and oversees the Goodwill Ambassador programme and celebrity partnerships.

The private sector engagement strategy 2023 – 2027 sets forth a proven approach based on three main pillars – impact, income and innovation. The strategy assists IOM to enhance partnerships with the private sector to foster change in corporate values and practices; enhance protection of migrants’ rights; generate innovative technical partnerships that capitalize upon business expertise and capabilities and grow flexible funding that can support programme implementation and impact globally and advance implementation of the Global Compact for Migration.

Under the direct supervision of the Head of Private Sector Partnerships Division (PSP), the Head, Individual Fundraising Unit will be responsible for leading and managing the individual giving with a focus on digital fundraising.

Core Functions / Responsibilities:

Private Sector Partnerships:

  1. Lead the expansion and development of individual giving with a focus on digital fundraising programmes at IOM for flexible funding aimed to expand sustainable and flexible income generation for IOM.
  2. Oversee the launch and implementation of individual giving digital fundraising campaign (Pilot).
  3. Transfer technical skills from Pilot experience to establish individual giving capacity in-house.
  4. Email Marketing: Create and oversee the development of email marketing and donor journey flows to engage supporters effectively.
  5. Produce consistent and high quality personalized communication and donor recognition programmes.
  6. Fundraising Campaigns: Oversee the development and execution of individual giving campaigns.
  7. Coordinate online and offline fundraising efforts.
  8. Set clear campaign goals and KPIs.
  9. Data Analysis and Reporting: Oversee the utilization of donor management software to track donor information and giving history. Analyze fundraising performance and produce regular reports. Use data insights to make informed decisions for programme improvement.
  10. Lead the development of individual fundraising strategies and products through diverse fundraising activities that serve to recruit, retain and secure repeat individual donors.
  11. Fundraising Events: Oversee the development and implementation of fundraising events tailored for individual donors. Collaborate with event organizers and coordinate logistics.
  12. In coordination with the Department of Financial Management, PSP team and IOM Regional and Country Offices – ensure internal financial and legal frameworks at IOM are conducive and responsive to private sector income collection and allocation of flexible funding.
  13. Leverage fundraising opportunities through national committee(s) to support IOM and support exploration of additional national committees in new markets.
  14. Oversee the establishment of a governance mechanism that clearly defines the allocation process, use, monitoring and reporting scheme for individual giving.
  15. Oversee the maintaining of the individual donor database and production of ongoing analysis and monitoring campaign results.
  16. Ensure the compliance with the relevant national/international laws and recommendations related to fundraising trends, licensing, data protection and privacy.

Capacity Building:

  1. Build internal capacity and expertise to engage with individual supporters.
  2. Coach and build the capacities of IOM staff and PSP Peer Support Group by providing advice, guidance and training to ensure consistent, outreach activities that deliver the desired impact.
  3. In coordination with the PSP team, plan and provide expert support to the global capacity-building initiatives through online and in-person trainings and workshops.
  4. Oversee the setup of communities of practice and tools for collaboration and knowledge management for private sector partnerships across IOM.
  5. Identify and propose opportunities for knowledge exchanges in the areas and geographies assigned – for IOM staff to learn about best practices and success stories on private sector engagement from IOM staff in other regions.

Coordination and Monitoring and Evaluation:

  1. Oversee the provision of support in the mainstreaming of fundraising initiatives into IOM communications campaigns.
  2. Ensure smooth donor database migration, maintenance and systems integration. Ensure fundraising systems are up to date and fit for purpose.
  3. Ensure timely execution of procurement and administrative processes required for setting up new platforms, systems, and hiring creative agencies.
  4. Ensure timely allocation of funds and monitor use of funds for evaluation and reporting.
  5. Oversee the tracking of PSP expenditure/budget and income recording and reporting for individual giving and digital fundraisers.
  6. Monitor and report upon progress against Private sector strategy KPIs under direct responsibility.
  7. Work with PSP Team as appropriate, to compile and produce narrative and financial reports to private sector donors as it relates to activities led by the Division.
  8. Contribute to the development of reporting mechanisms to enable timely impact reporting to Member States, private sector partners and the public to enhance accountability.
  9. Perform such other duties as may be assigned.

Required Qualifications and Experience:

Education

  • Master’s degree in marketing, Communications, Business Administration, Social Sciences, International Relations, Management, Development Studies, or a related field from an accredited academic institution with seven years of relevant professional experience; or,
  • University degree in the above fields with nine years of relevant professional experience.

Experience

  • Excellent understanding and experience with fundraising and individual giving;
  • Significant experience in running individual giving and digital fundraising and individual giving programmes;
  • Experienced in working cross-functionally and obtaining relevant content and information from different units to build compelling value propositions; and,
  • At least seven years (nine years for bachelor’s degree holders) of experience in private sector engagement building with proven success in mobilizing financial resources from private sector.

Skills

  • Proven and successful multi-year track record in individual giving and fundraising with strongability to meet fundraising targets;
  • Proven successful track record of fundraising;
  • Strong ability to reconcile the needs of the Organization with those of the individual donor;
  • Strong communication skills (verbal and written);
  • Ability to write, draft, and edit, reports, acknowledgements, briefings, and donor correspondence letters, proposals, grants and appeals;
  • Ability to explain complex issues to external donors and present the Organization and diverse operations in an appealing and concise manner;
  • Ability to develop Unique Value Proposition for individual supporters; and,
  • In-depth understanding of private sector partnerships, fundraising, philanthropy with UN agencies.

Languages

IOM’s official languages are English, French, and Spanish. All staff members are required to be fluent in one of the three languages.

For this position, fluency in English is required (oral and written). Working knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, and Spanish) is an advantage.

Proficiency of language(s) required will be specifically evaluated during the selection process, which may include written and/or oral assessments.
