Head of delegation – Conakry – GUINEA (M/F) At French Red Cross

More Information

The French Red Cross (CRF) has the mission of helping people in difficulty in France and abroad. In France, it leads and initiates actions of solidarity, child protection, combating loneliness among seniors and violence. Auxiliary to the public authorities, the French Red Cross intervenes during natural disasters and exceptional situations. Internationally, the CRF intervenes in 24 countries alongside the National Societies, on the following themes: health, water and sanitation, distribution of essential goods, psychosocial support, access to basic services, social cohesion, support for livelihoods, reduction of natural disaster risks, emergency relief and support for recovery.

Intervention and positioning of the CRF in Guinea:

Present in the Republic of Guinea since the start of the spread of the Ebola epidemic in April 2014 at the request of the Guinean Red Cross and the Guinean Ministry of Health; the French Red Cross has contributed to the response to the Ebola virus disease through the management of the Ebola Treatment Centers in Macenta and Forécariah.

After this emergency phase, the CRF’s action turned to supporting the Ministry of Health to strengthen its capacities to prevent any new resurgence of the disease in several regions of the country. It is proud to have intervened alongside the Guinean Red Cross (CRG) according to its three axes: the fight against epidemics, disaster risk management and strengthening the capacities of the Guinean Red Cross.

The collaboration between our two national companies has made it possible to carry out several projects, but also to respond to the various health emergencies that have affected the country over the last ten years. This collaboration has been made possible thanks to the technical and financial support of many partners, such as the French Development Agency, the European Union, and the Global Fund.

Drawing on its experience in the fight against the Ebola virus disease, the French Red Cross is providing technical and material assistance to the Guinean Red Cross and supporting the response to the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic.

Current projects implemented jointly by the CRF and the CRG:

  • Since June 2023, a project to strengthen the operational capacities of the Guinean Red Cross in First Aid.
  • 2024-2026: project to strengthen social cohesion and disengagement from violence among populations affected by the explosion of the hydrocarbon depot in Conakry. “During an 18-month period financed by Due, it aims to strengthen social cohesion and prevent tensions exacerbated by the consequences of the explosion of the hydrocarbon depot in schools and working-class neighborhoods in Conakry.

The Guinean Red Cross:

The Guinean Red Cross (CRG) is one of the youngest National Societies in Africa. From its creation in 1984 to the present day, the CRG has participated in major humanitarian assistance operations which have given it solid experience. The CRG’s 3 priority areas of action are: organizational development, disaster management, risk reduction, and community health and care.
