HEAD OF DEVELOPMENT OFFICER at InformAction

InformAction (IFA) is a unique field-based human rights organization that uses social justice films and community debates to get ordinary people to speak out and take action. Established in 2010, we operate through mobile field teams in six regions of operations in the Coast, South Rift, South Nyanza, Western Kenya, Central and North Eastern Kenya. IFA’s experienced activists lead community discussions on justice, human rights, and governance issues.

InformAction would like to employ a Head of Development Officer that will report to and work closely with the Executive Director to use grant making and programmatic efforts to promote and protect the rights of all individuals where the principles of good governance and the respect for the rule of law are absent.

Key Responsibilities

• Development and implementation of a fundraising strategy in line with IFA’s Strategic Plan. These include the grant writing process, providing links between program, finance, and other administrative staff so that all grant making activities are smoothly implemented.

• Development and implement a fundraising budget and budget monitoring in liaison with program staff.

• Development and implement clear monitoring indicators of the fundraising strategy in liaison with MEAL Officer and other program staff.

• Continuous monitoring of external environment undertaking independent research in identifying alternative resources that ensure the long-term sustainability of the organization.

• Development and maintenance of a fundraising calendar and support of communication officer to develop donor-specific communication tactics.

• Assist with implementation and maintenance of grants management software and integrity of data

• Develop a good working understanding of each program’s goals and strategies

• Assist in the report writing process, providing links between program, finance, and other administrative staff as needed.

• Maintain electronic and physical programmatic files related to all aspects of the grants management

• Mapping local, national, and regional human rights stakeholders active in the areas we work in;

• Provide leadership in proposal development in liaison with program staff. This includes developing and submitting tailored fundraising proposals and applications to funding bodies and potential donors

• To provide periodic tailored donor/partner reports

• Provide proposal development training to program staff.

Qualifications and Experience

• Masters degree or equivalent in Project Management, International Relations, Political Studies, Development Studies, Human Rights, Social sciences, Fundraising, or any other related field.

• A proven track record of a minimum of 5 years experience in successful fundraising in the non-profit setting

• Knowledge of the non-profit, human rights sector and a familiarity with the political, socio-economic, and security contexts in Kenya and their effect on the situation of communities across Kenya

• Excellent relationship management and interpersonal skills, proven ability to build, manage and develop key stakeholder, clients, and donor relationships.

• Ability to build and manage a good relationship with donors and partners. He/she will be expected to represent the organization in high-level meetings.

• Programmatic experience in human rights and governance is preferred.

• Experience in monitoring and implementing strategies and budgets.
