Position: Head of Internal Audit (IA), BRAC International

Job Location: Dhaka, Bangladesh or Nairobi, Kenya

About the Role:

BRAC International (BI) is seeking a dynamic Head of Internal Audit to oversee the internal audit services in BI countries. In this role, you will provide both strategic and operational support to the Director of Internal Audit at BRAC and BRAC International. Your efforts will help ensure the effectiveness, transparency, and sustainability of internal audit functions across BI countries

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Responsibilities:

  • Plan resources and allocate audit staff for risk-based audits, enterprise audits, and process audits in BI countries.
  • Continuously improving the reporting system to enhance communication with senior management.
  • Design and supervise the implementation of technological tools in auditing processes.
  • Ensure audit strategies are updated to reflect changes in programs and operations.
  • Provide strategic insights into BI Country management for effective risk management.
  • Lead special audits, high-level investigations, and process redesigning assignments.
  • Develop long-term and short-term strategies for internal audit services and annual internal audit plans.

Operational Responsibilities:

  • Assist in updating the internal audit manual and charter, ensuring compliance with IIA and IFAC standards.
  • Review organisational policies to assess control mechanisms for fraud prevention, governance, and risk management.
  • Prepare executive-level reports for internal audits and lead the development of documents for BI’s Audit and Risk Committee.
  • Conduct country audits as per the annual audit plan, ensuring effective follow-upsand discussions with country teams.

Communication and Reporting:

  • Engage with country management teams, boards, and committees to gather feedback and provide support.
  • Ensure the timely distribution of monthly, quarterly, and annual audit reports.

People Management:

  • Oversee staffing needs and ensure audit teams are aligned with audit goals.
  • Foster a culture of integrity and professionalism within the internal audit department.
  • Coordinate recruitment and training of staff, ensuring ongoing professional development.

Safeguarding Responsibilities:

  • Establish a safeguarding culture across all levels of the programme by implementing the safeguarding policy. Act as a key source of support, guidance and expertise on safeguarding for establishing a safe working environment.
  • Responsible assure team members are appropriately trained, supported and have access to resources regarding issues that are identified and actioned in accordance with the safeguarding policy and procedure.
  • Follow the safeguarding reporting procedure in case any reportable incident takes place, encourage others to do so.

Academic Qualifications:

  • MBA/BBA/Bachelor or Master’s in Accounting, Management, Business Studies, or other Commerce-related field from a reputed university.
  • ACA/ACCA/CIA or other equivalent degrees in related field.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Competencies:

  • Capable of managing the internal audit function like audit conduction, report review, quality reporting etc.
  • Knowledge of IFRS, ISA and IIA Standards for developing new policies and procedures to enhance compliances.
  • Capable of working with teams with good communication skills and relationship building attitude.
  • Demonstrates thorough knowledge and continuous updating of IIA Standards, the COSO framework, and capable of integrating new audit tools and techniques considering organisational requirements.
  • Capable to maintain communication with relevant professional bodies, i.e. – ICAB or ACCA, IIAB, ISACA etc.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and enterprise resource software.

Experience Requirements:

  • Minimum 8-10 years working experience with two years’ Managerial skill in Audit/ Compliance/ Risk Management related field will be preferred.
