The position is to be filled as soon as possible, with an initial contract duration of two years. There are very good prospects for an extension. Employment location will be Khartoum, Sudan.
As Head of Programmes in Sudan, you are expected to play a leading role in the implementation of high-quality programmes, contribute to the strategic development of new projects, and contribute to the goal of achieving Zero Hunger by 2030.
Your responsibilities
- Monitor humanitarian needs and trends in the operating environment in Sudan and especially in the areas of WHH operations
- Identify, examine and assess new project ideas according to the intersection of observed needs and the WHH country strategy
- Support programme development by leading or contributing towards needs assessments, concept notes and project proposals
- Support field managers (Area Managers and Heads of Project) and other project staff as needed with technical and project management guidance, contributing to or overseeing the production of workplans, budgets, and other relevant project documentation, including support to ensure successful completion of projects and compliance with WHH quality standards
- Collaborate with the MEAL Coordinator for the overall production of M&E data and analysis and programme learning
- Ensuring appropriate and timely reporting to head office and to donors
- Represent Welthungerhilfe externally to coordinate programme approaches and project activities with partners and other stakeholders, including INGOs, UN and other aid agencies and Sudanese authorities as necessary
- Link effectively with WHH support at HQ and/or external consultants to support effective programme and project implementation
- Prepare and provide information about projects and programmes for internal and external communication requirements, such as marketing and fundraising
Your profile
- A university or polytechnic degree in international/rural development, nutrition, agriculture, project management, or a related field
- At least 3-5 years of project management experience in humanitarian or development programming, preferably in the region
- Experience with WFP and BMZ donor regulations would be an advantage
- Coordination and organisational skills – even under a high workload
- A high level of mental and physical resilience and a willingness to work in difficult settings
- Excellent communication skills and intercultural sensibility
- Fluency in English is required, and a very good command of both written and spoken German would be a strong asset
