Head of Programmes – Jordan At Islamic Relief

IRW’s International Programmes Division is recruiting for the position of ‘Head of Programmes, Jordan’ to join its dynamic team to based out of its Jordan office.

JOB PURPOSE:

  • To provide strategic leadership and expertise to the programme in Jordan
  • Design, implement, monitor and report high-quality and high-impact programming in Jordan
  • To ensure IRJ’s programmes division meets Islamic Relief Quality Standards
  • To ensure the development and utilization of best practice for technical interventions
  • To network with, and represent Islamic Relief to partners (government authorities, donors, INGOs, local NGOs, CBOs etc.)
  • Represent Islamic Relief Jordan at relevant forums
  • Lead and effectively contribute to Country/Regional Strategies and yearly plans
  • To ensure capacity building and growth of programmes staff capacities and skillsets

The successful candidate must have or be:

  • Experience of working with various International NGOs in developing countries.
  • Significant experience within the International Development Sector with demonstratable experience in a similar role.
  • An in depth understanding of national and international development issues in particular in relation to health, livelihoods, education and community development.
  • Experience of developing proposals for a variety of donors
  • Experience of successfully fundraising and dealing with ECHO, USIAD and GAC and other institutional donors.
  • Experience of developing links with INGOs, Government agencies, Institutional donors and other stakeholders
  • Experience of and commitment to participatory management and maintaining a supportive, open environment to ensure the learning and development of all staff.
  • Experience of managing and mentoring local and international staff.
  • Familiarity with the Sustainable Development Goals, CHS, Sphere Standards, Do no harm policy, Red-Cross/ Red-crescent Code of Conduct, Humanitarian Accountability Programme etc.
  • Strategic leadership skills
  • The capacity to develop and maintain an understanding of and be sympathetic to the social, cultural and political context of the post
  • Ability to represent, liaise and negotiate at different levels (national, provincial and local).
  • Knowledge/familiarity/expertise in programme areas: e.g. Emergency Response, Community Development, livelihoods, health
  • Knowledge/familiarity with country/region
  • Fluent written and spoken English and Arabic
  • Committed to Islamic Relief Worldwide values and code of conduct.
  • An in-depth understanding of the humanitarian context, key political, development and humanitarian trends and debates in Jordan.
  • University degree or its equivalent in management, social science, international development, public administration, or a related field
