Habitat Poland was founded in Gliwice in 1992 as the first Habitat for Humanity office in Europe and so far has helped about 4.000 people in Poland. It is part of Habitat for Humanity, a global network of nonprofit housing organizations working in approximately 70 countries.

Head of Programmes

Work location : Warsaw with 20% of time travelling

The Head of Programs is responsible for the development, implementation, and monitoring of Habitat for Humanity’s programs in Poland. This includes line-managing program departments and collaborating with other operational departments within the organization. Head of Programs is a key representative of Habitat for Humanity Poland in the community and with partners.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership and strategic direction to the program team to effectively deliver the range of programing in compliance with donor and organizational policies;
  • Set-up systems and processes to effectively manage the implementation of multiple grants;
  • Support the program team to mainstream do-no-harm and protection principles into all aspects of programming;
  • Support the MEAL team to improve the MEAL system for Habitat Poland, including strengthening the community feedback mechanism in close collaboration with regional MEAL technical advisor;
  • Ensure program quality standards are met across the program portfolio, including in relation to safeguarding;
  • Review and sign off on donor reports to ensure the quality and breadth of work is captured;
  • Line manage senior program functions including Project Managers, Sub-Office Manager, MEAL Advisor and Grants Manager;
  • Recruit, hire, and oversee training and orientation of all program team members;
  • Play a lead role in developing a program strategy for HFH Poland for a 24 month period, factoring in potential scenarios in the evolution of the Ukraine conflict. Contribute to Regional strategy development;
  • Together with the program team, develop new intervention ideas to scale up the current response supporting refugees in Poland;
  • Develop phase-out and sustainability plans for key initiatives launched during the early phase of the response;
  • Conduct assessments with senior program staff and identify potential partners and location-specific models for expansion.

Candidate’s profile:

  • Minimum of a BA, MA preferred, in a social studies, project management or an equivalent field;
  • At least 5 years of experience in the development or humanitarian work, with three of those in a team management role;
  • Strong project management skills managing complex, multifaceted projects resulting in measurable successes and program growth;
  • Experience having worked with a high-performance, collaborative, constructive peer group;
  • Strength in hiring, recruiting, managing, developing, coaching, and retaining individuals and teams, empowering them to elevate their levels of responsibility, span-of-control and performance;
  • Good understanding of human resources, employee performance improvement plans, and corrective action policies;
  • Proven experience negotiating win-win agreements;
  • Excellent verbal and written English communication skills. Polish language fluency is a plus;
  • Right to work in Poland;
  • Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and a commitment to and passion for Habitat for Humanity Poland mission.
