The position is to be filled as soon as possible, with an initial contract duration of one year. There are very good prospects for an extension. Employment location will be Yangon, Myanmar.
As Head of Programs, you will be responsible for growing WHH’s donor and project portfolio in Myanmar, with a focus on food security, livelihoods, and resilience. You will oversee the implementation and monitoring of the entire programme, ensuring alignment with WHH’s strategic objectives and quality standards. Additionally, you will develop and implement programme quality tools to enhance the impact of interventions and provide capacity-building support to programme teams in Yangon and field offices. You will ensure projects meet donor standards and address the needs of communities affected by the ongoing conflict.
Your responsibilities
- Ensure monitoring and evaluation findings are incorporated into existing programmes and projects.
- Define intervention areas with support of Heads of Project / Area Managers.
- Coordinate the country programme and strategy development in close coordination with the Country Director and SMT.
- Liaise with key donors, partners and other key stakeholders for the programme and represent Welthungerhilfe in technical and coordination fora and relevant meetings.
- Identify financing opportunities and lead the development of proposals in line with donor compliance.
- Ensure timely and correct reporting towards our Head Office and donors.
- Ensure the further development of the PCM system and implement WHH standards in the country programme.
- Further develop the donor engagement strategy of the Myanmar Country Office.
- Prepare, coordinate, and facilitate strategic country meetings and other workshops.
- Monitor context developments, including the humanitarian debate, and share relevant information with the Myanmar team and Head Office.
- Identify lessons learned from programmes and projects and ensure networking on best practices and lessons learned with Head Office.
- Support/organize field assessments and evaluations for proposal development.
Your profile
- A university degree in humanitarian or development studies or a related field relevant to the position.
- Over five years of leadership experience in development and humanitarian contexts.
- Preferred experience in Myanmar or other Southeast Asian countries.
- Strong skills in proposal writing and programme development, particularly in food security, nutrition, climate change, disaster risk reduction, agriculture, and WASH.
- Excellent communication, coordination, and organizational skills, with proven intercultural competence and the ability to work under pressure and in fragile contexts.
- Demonstrated ability to build team capacities and foster collaboration.
- Interest in leveraging AI for office efficiency and humanitarian projects.
- Willingness to receive required vaccinations for travel to Welthungerhilfe programme countries.
- Fluency in spoken and written English, ethnic languages spoken in Myanmar and German are an asset.
