Health Emergency Preparedness And Response Training Consultant At African Christian Health Association Platform

BACKGROUND

The Africa Christian Health Associations Platform (ACHAP) is an advocacy and networking platform for Christian Health Associations (CHAs) and Church Health Networks from Sub Saharan Africa established through a declaration of commitment by the 3rd Africa Christian Health Associations Biennial Conference held in Bagamoyo, Tanzania in January 2007. ACHAP brings together more than 40 national level faith-based networks providing services in 32 countries across Sub-Saharan Africa to share resources, establish technical working groups (TWGs), and provide ongoing training and technical assistance (TA) to its members. In addition, governments see ACHAP members as critical players and in many African countries partner with them to provide health support services, even to government facilities.

ACHAP is seeking consultancy services to support the following areas: reviewing and updating ACHAP’s Health Emergency Preparedness and Response course, facilitating the training of 7-10 CHA participants on Health Emergency Preparedness (HEP), and assisting in the drafting of a technical brief on ACHAP’s Faith engagement and Health Emergency Preparedness and Response. The ideal candidate should possess expertise in emergency preparedness and response capacity building, the Global Health Security Agenda, One Health, International Health Regulations, and experience collaborating with NGOs to enhance preparedness practices within Christian Health Associations.

SCOPE OF WORK

The consultancy will have the following tasks:

1. Review of the Health Emergency Preparedness course.

  • Conduct a gap analysis to identify areas for improvement.
  • Evaluate the current curriculum against best practices and recent developments in the field.
  • Update and revise course materials to reflect the latest guidelines and standards.
  • Develop a feedback mechanism for continuous improvement based on participant input**.**

2. Develop two Technical Briefs on ACHAP’s approach to Faith Leaders engagement and HEPR.

  • Gather and synthesize research on specific health emergency topics.
  • Design and format briefs.
  • Facilitate reviews to validate the technical content.

3. Training of Christian Health Associations Members on HEPR

  • Conduct an In-person training for the CHA members on Health Emergency Preparedness and Response
  • Carry out simulations to enhance practical skills in emergency response.
  • Support participants to develop Health Emergency Preparedness plans for their CHAs and respective HCFs.
  • Establish a monitoring and evaluation framework to assess the impact of the training.

DELIVERABLES

ACHAP expects the consultant shall complete and submit the following deliverables:

  • Updated Health Emergency preparedness and Response course
  • Technical briefs on ACHAP’s Faith engagement and Health Emergency Preparedness and Response.
  • Training Report for the CHA Members.
  • Feedback on the previous training/Course.
  • Review the outcomes of the previous training.

Timeline

This consultancy is expected to begin on 10th /May/ 2024 and should be completed by 30th of June 2024. The successful candidate will be expected to provide regular progress reports and meet all agreed-upon deadlines.

Consultant Qualifications: We are seeking a highly experienced consultant with expertise in emergency response, public health, and knowledge management. The ideal candidate should possess the following qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in public health or a related field and 5+ years post-master’s experience working in public health and/or healthcare preparedness -or- a bachelor’s degree in public health or a related field and 10+ years of experience working in health care preparedness and public health emergency preparedness.
  • Experience developing emergency plans for public health and health care, such as plans for emerging infectious diseases, medical surge, medical countermeasures distribution, and health-related sheltering functions.
  • Experience designing and implementing training programs, as well as excellent training and facilitation skills.
  • Experience of delivering capacity building workshops on emergency Preparedness and response.
  • Experience working with International and local NGOs for emergency preparedness or humanitarian response.
  • Extensive experience as a trainer and facilitator, with over 5 years of well-documented and proven expertise in the field of training.
  • Proficiency in the English language is a requirement, and the ability to speak French would be considered a valuable additional skill.
