Chemonics seeks a health market assessment consultant, with a particular focus on family planning (FP), to support the USAID Frontier Health Markets Engage (FHM Engage) project in Guatemala. The global project aims to provide technical assistance (TA) in a range of countries, supporting local actors to improve the ability of health markets to meet supply-side capacity gaps and consumer preferences. FHM Engage contributes to equitable provision of and access to high-quality family planning (FP) and other health services and products in mixed health systems. The health market assessment consultant will contribute to the development of market solutions in Guatemala that connect development partners who are financing public health interventions with private sector actors to increase delivery of FP products, services, and information. The location of assignment is remote with travel to Guatemala. This is a part-time consultancy inclusive of approximately 40 LOE (Level of Effort) days over an initial period of 3 months with a possibility of extension..

Responsibilities include:
- Review FHM Engage market development approach (MDA) and rapid assessment tools.
- Conduct desk review of health indicators, market performance, relevant policies, and on-going interventions
- Prepare a rapid market assessment in Guatemala in consultation with USAID/Guatemala
- Set up meetings for key informant interviews with relevant market stakeholders
- Compile, organize, and analyze collected information and findings from actors to synthesize into a family planning health market description
- Provide a ‘diagnosis’ of market failures leading to restricted access to family planning product and services and recommendations for interventions that will improve health market performance.
- Create a detailed slide deck of the market description, using FHM Engage’s MDA tools.
- Deliverables: a pre-assessment brief, a trip report with market assessment findings and, and a detailed PowerPoint presentation of the final Guatemala FP market description.
Qualifications:
- Experience in family planning health markets
- At least 10 years of professional experience in providing technical assistance to FP programs.
- Proven analytical and research skills (both quantitative and qualitative)
- Strong technical writing and presentation skills, and ability to communicate effectively to diverse audiences
- Ability to engage and coordinate with a wide range of stakeholders
- Familiarity with the health sector in Guatemala
- Demonstrated leadership, versatility, and integrity
- Fluency in English and Spanish written and spoken
