Overview of position:
Our clients engineering section is mandated to carry out design, construction & maintenance ofaccommodation & office facilities for civilian staff & T / PCC’s. The engineering section has the following units:

  • WATSAN.
  • Projects & asset management unit.
  • Infrastructure management unit.
  • Planningand design unit.

The incumbent will provide effective services to the engineering section foroverall operational & technical support.

Role objectives:
The Heavy Equipment Operator may operate several types of power construction equipment,such as frontend loaders, crane mounted truck, forklifts up to 28 ton, backhoes & excavators to excavate, move & grade earth, erect structures, or pour concrete or other hard surface pavement. May also be required to maintain equipment in addition to other duties. The Heavy Equipment Operator will perform the following tasks:

  • Operate heavy equipment in compliance with our clients operating safety policies & procedures.
  • Provide recommendations for maintaining & improving environmental performance.
  • Load & unload construction materials, waste & other heavy objects from trucks & into dumpsters either manually or with the assistance of a machine.
  • Running, maneuvering, navigating or driving vehicles or mechanized equipment, such as forklift, Bobcat & passenger vehicles where required.
  • Operates an excavator to excavate sewage trenches, manholes, septic tanks, water lines & maintaining roadside ditches & embankments.
  • Monitoring & reviewing information from materials, events, or the environment, to detect or assess problems.
  • Perform regular equipment maintenance & minor repairs when necessary.
  • Follow all safety procedures while operating the assigned equipment & follow stated procedures in case of accidents.
  • Ensure our clients equipment, material & the work site are maintained, kept clean & stored in a safe manner.
  • Store & clean machinery at its designated location & complete work reports at the end of each working day.
  • Report to the security section on any incidents encountered on the road.
  • Follow all applicable traffic laws (as set by TPT).
  • Inspect their trailer before & after the trip & record any defects / dents / scratches they find.
  • Report serious mechanical problems to the appropriate personnel.
  • Keep his / her truck & associated equipment, clean & in good working order.
  • Take special precautions while operating heavy equipment within & outside our clients camps.
  • Perform other related duties as required & assigned by the REO.

Objectives:

  • To provide day to day support to the region in operation of the heavy engineering equipment.

Outputs:

  • Provide professional heavy equipment operator services & perform tasks as outlined above.

Project reporting:

  • This role reports to the Project Manager.

Key competencies:

  • High school diploma or equivalent, holding an appropriate driving license or operator license with categories C, & F showing on their driving license, (truck, forklift, backhoe, heavy equpment etc).
  • 5 plus years of experience working with heavy equipment.
  • Knowledge of proper operation of heavy equipment as well as safety standards.

Team management:

  • This role has no team management responsibility.
