HUMANITARIAN ADVOCACY OFFICER At CARE USA

Job Summary:

The Humanitarian Advocacy Officer will support CARE USA’s efforts to influence the humanitarian system and member states, in collaboration with CARE country offices and regions. S/he will work to ensure that the diverse needs of all crisis-affected people are met and their rights—under international humanitarian, human rights, and refugee law—are protected. S/he will support CUSA Humanitarian Affairs Department food security advocacy initiatives. She/he will actively support the effort to make visible to donors, humanitarian organizations, policymakers, and other stakeholders how hunger and food insecurity differently affect different groups of people, particularly women and girls. The Humanitarian Advocacy Officer will work closely with Humanitarian Affairs team members, including advocacy and food security specialists. S/he will also engage with peer NGOs and external stakeholders.

Responsibilities:

Support the coordination of Humanitarian Affairs food security advocacy initiatives (80%):

• Draft internal and external communications and advocacy materials
• Compile feedback on document drafts
• Help draft and edit project documents and reports
• Help create and carry out dissemination plans
• Support external communications products for thought leadership events and priorities
• Support technical staff in development of materials and placement in professional circles
• Participate in workshops and learning opportunities as feasible to enhance understanding of food and nutrition security

Support logistics arrangements for all project- related meetings (15%):

• Take and distribute meeting notes
• Prepare for external meetings, engaging procurement and external vendors as needed
• Support in travel and accommodation arrangements

Other duties as assigned (5%).

Qualifications:

• Must have a willingness to stay abreast of professional standards, best practices, and issues affecting this set of responsibilities, demonstrating continuous learning within the Advocacy field
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills, able to prioritize workload and multi-task, and work effectively in a fast-paced environment
• Demonstrated ability to communicate technical information to non-technical audiences
• Must possess a collaborative work style to effectively work within cross functional teams & across departments
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google suites
