WHAT IT’S LIKE TO BE A HUMANITARIAN AFFAIRS AND ADVOCACY ANALYST AT MSF-BRAZIL:

You will design and actively participate in the implementation of advocacy strategies and institutional relations for MSF projects in Brazil, in addition to monitoring and preparing analyses on public health issues and other topics of interest to the organization in Brazil and Latin America.

1. WHAT WILL BE YOUR CHALLENGES?

• Ensure compliance with the department’s annual planning, reconciling this with the timely delivery of projects and analyses in a dynamic environment;

• Keep up to date on different Brazilian and Latin American topics and contexts of interest to MSF, developing a strategic perspective to anticipate problems;

• Establish relationships with key players on different topics.

2. WHAT IS THE DAY-TO-DAY LIKE IN THE POSITION?

• Develop, implement and monitor advocacy strategies related to the Unit’s themes, promoting the defense of important themes and strategic objectives of the organization with the authorities and civil society;

• Support project teams in Brazil and Latin America in designing advocacy strategies and developing relationships with local authorities and social leaders;

• Monitor topics of interest to the organization in Brazil and Latin America and support the writing of analyses on health policies and other topics;

• Carry out activities to support MSF-Brazil operations, assisting teams in the production and analysis of data, contexts and risks, collaborating in the construction of decision-making;

• Produce analyses of political scenarios and current circumstances in Brazil and Latin America;

• Develop support materials for MSF’s work with Brazilian authorities or in partnership with civil society, such as key messages for meetings, description of profiles of relevant actors, among others;

• Represent MSF-Brazil in meetings with different stakeholders and in different scenarios, considering the strategic objectives of the organization and the area, when relevant;

• Coordinate research and compile data to support analysis documents on topics of interest to MSF’s Advocacy Unit in Brazil and the region;

• Increase MSF’s capacity for political advocacy in Brazil on priority issues for the organization, by establishing and maintaining good relationships with key actors, through participation in virtual/in-person events and networks;

• Carry out mapping of institutions, relevant actors, themes and opportunities for topics of interest to MSF in Brazil;

• Prepare letters, official documents, emails, presentations and other institutional communications, when necessary;

• Support the department’s internal and administrative activities/processes, suggesting improvements when necessary;

• Be responsible for monitoring MSF’s international themes and agendas in the context of humanitarian aid, if necessary;

• Monitor and periodically report information and news on matters of interest to MSF, mainly for Operations;

• Carry out document review, data analysis and textual production, as required;

• Provide support in reviewing the content and format of MSF-Brazil policies and standards related to the department, when necessary
