Background

Islamic Relief Worldwide, Somalia Program has been operating in Somalia since 2006 and has responded to conflict and drought-affected people through the provision of life-saving assistance. through our projects, IR has continuously been providing safe drinking water, improving hygienic sanitation facilities, increasing hygiene awareness, particularly among those living in IDP camps; empowering the urban poor and distressed working children, engaging in conflict management and mitigation, and strengthening community cohesiveness and co-existence.

Scope of Role:

The ICT Assistant will be involved in defining the scope and implementing the innovative technological solutions in line with strategic direction of Islamic Relief Somalia. This position requires utilizing advanced technologies to meet the organization’s objectives and enhancing the operational efficiency of ICT services and infrastructure. The position holder of this position will collaborate closely with various stakeholders to ensure that technological solutions are aligned with organizational goals and deliver measurable improvements in productivity.

Key areas of accountability

  • Install, configure, and maintain ICT infrastructure, including servers, networks, and peripheral devices. Align all support activities with organizational guidelines
  • Provide system performance monitoring and troubleshooting support and keep the computer systems going on working at an optimal level.
  • Support the implementation of infrastructure security protocols to safeguard ICT systems and data Manage security measures.
  • Provide technical assistance to resolve hardware and software problems. Provide training and support to improve users’ proficiency with ICT applications.
  • Provide training and mentorship on ICT best practices, security measures, and technology utilization
  • Planning and execution of data protection and recovery processes and implement routine data backups.
  • Assist in maintaining proper documentation related to ICT systems, configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting guides. Ensure documentation is accurate and up-to-date.
  • Assist in maintaining proper ICT policies, standards, and regulatory requirements. Assist in conducting audits and assessments to verify compliance.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support business initiatives and projects requiring ICT expertise. Assist in the integration of ICT solutions within various organizational activities.
  • Provide on-call ICT support to address critical ICT issues and emergencies outside of regular working hours.
  • Assists in monitoring the software’s performance to identify technical issues
  • Assist in troubleshooting system and device issues and diagnose any malfunctions with software developers/vendors for advanced support
  • Assist in conducting periodic system evaluations to identify ICT gabs

Qualifications and experience

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a similar field is required. Additional certifications or advanced courses in ICT are an added advantage.
  2. Minimum one-year experience of ICT or related field in Humanitarian or Local Organization
  3. Basic understanding of network administration, server management, and cybersecurity. Familiarity with IRW ICT standards and policies is a plus.
  4. Strong analytical skills are needed to help diagnose and fix technical problems. You should also be able to anticipate potential challenges and contribute to solutions proactively.
  5. Ability to explain technical concepts clearly to people who aren’t tech-savvy. Good interpersonal skills are necessary for working effectively within diverse teams.
  6. Ability to adapt to changing priorities and work environments, and capable of managing challenging situations while providing support under pressure.
