FALL 2022 INTERNSHIP – NORWEGIAN REFUGEE COUNCIL USA

NRC

The Norwegian Refugee Council is an independent humanitarian organization helping people forced to flee. The Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) is working to promote and protect the rights of refugees and internally displaced persons worldwide. NRC work in both new and protracted crises across 31 countries providing food assistanceclean watershelterlegal aid, and education. NRC respond quickly to emergencies. Our expert deployment capacity NORCAP, the world’s most used, boasts around 1,000 experts from all over the world. Our experts stand ready to deploy at a moment’s notice to support the UN and local authorities in humanitarian crises. Around 16,000 men and women work for the Norwegian Refugee Council. Most of NRC’s employees are hired locally to work in the field, and a small number are based at NRC’s head office in Oslo, Norway. Many current NRC colleagues were once themselves fleeing their homes.

NRC USA

NRC USA was established in February 2016 in Washington, D.C. The NRC USA office has two primary functions: (1) raising money for NRC’s overseas programs to support conflict-affected refugees and internally displaced people; and (2) providing humanitarian policy advice to the administration, Congress, and other non-governmental organizations. NRC receives most of its U.S. financial support from USAID’s Bureau of Humanitarian Assistance and the State Department’s Bureau of Population, Refugees, and Migration. NRC USA’s policy and advocacy work translates the direct experiences of NRC field staff and programs into practical recommendations for how the U.S. government and Congress can better meet the needs of the world’s refugees. The issues NRC USA work on include protection of civilians, respect for International Humanitarian Law, better global response to internal displacement, and better humanitarian response by the United States in our priority countries.

The intern will work in the Partnerships and Policy Department, which is responsible for NRC’s strategic relations with institutional donors and private foundations, including USAID’s Bureau for Humanitarian Assistance (BHA) and the State Department Bureau of Populations, Refugees, and Migration (PRM). Additionally, the Partnerships and Policy Department is responsible for developing relevant global strategies for resource mobilization; developing funding prospects with existing and new donors; further streamlining NRC’s procedures, processes, and tools related to resource mobilization and grant management; developing and providing internal training and help desk support, etc.

NRC USA is also a resource to universities, think tanks, and the general public on refugee issues and seeks financial support and partnerships with U.S.-based individuals, foundations and corporations. For more information about NRC USA, please visit www.nrcusa.org
