General Description & Background
Can’t Wait to Learn (CWTL) introduces new (cost-) effective solutions to the serious challenges facing education for children in emergencies. By utilising innovative technological solutions with a focus on serious gaming, CWTL builds on concepts, which have been successfully implemented in Ukraine, Sudan, Lebanon, Jordan and Uganda. CWTL seeks to increase the number of children with access to quality education in mathematics and reading in areas affected by conflict globally. Developing fresh, interactive materials based on the national curricula, and creating effective partnership structures to distribute these, CWTL creates new opportunities for making education accessible to those children who have been excluded from education, increasing their resilience and preparing them for a positive future.
Purpose of the Role
The position is responsible for the overall leadership and management of the programme to achieve impact at scale in line with the programme key performance indicators and organisational scaling strategy and vision. The position involves the management of a complex global programme, including strategic partnership development, programme planning, product development, project implementation and quality assurance. Can’t Wait to Learn is currently active in Jordan, Ukraine and Uganda in cooperation with implementing partners and War Child technical and in-country teams.
Position within the Organisation
The Programme Director CWtL manages the global programme team, which includes gaming, education, design, and content production technical expertise, as well as implementation, logistics and admin capacity. The position also manages internal and external partners, stakeholders and expert, and manages the software development service provider.
The CWTL Programme Director reports directly to the Director of International Programmes.
Your Challenge
- Team management: Nurture & maintain a globally based team and achieve maximum outcomes and motivation via participatory and inclusive leadership including actively engaging with staff.
- Strategy development: Contribute to strategy evolvement based on recent developments and additional expert (policy) proposals. Ensure the management team is provided with quality advice and guidance with regard to strategy development.
- Programme management: Ensure the CWTL Programme is effectively planned, coordinated and implemented in line with quality standards and as per War Child strategy.
- Fundraising: Ensure timely and appropriate funding sources are secured to cover all programme components and for longer term scaling ambitions of the CWTL Programme.
- Networking (depending on the profile): Networking & relationship building to maintain and expand relevant collaborative partnerships / relations, provide effective external communication with respect to programs, and contribute to the positioning of the organization.
The Programme Director CWtL would typically represent the programme to donors and education sector actors, working toward sector endorsement of Can’t Wait to Learn as an effective, evidenced based, cost efficient EiE intervention, generating opportunities for funding, strategic and implementation partnerships. Depending on the profile of the interim role holder contribution to this will also be included in the overall responsibilities.
Your Profile
- Relevant academic degree or studies (international development, conflict or social studies, etc).
- Knowledge of war affected emergency, post-emergency or developing countries humanitarian education sector priorities would be beneficial.
- Experience in leading and managing multi-stakeholders programmes.
- Experience in leading and managing a team.
- Strong planning and organising skills.
- Outstanding interpersonal skills.
- Excellent communication skills, interpersonal and relationship building skills.
- Problem solving and can-do mentality.
- Fluency in English required, French, Spanish or Arabic an asset.

Job Location

Contract
Approx 3-month period with the possibility to extend, commencing as soon as possible and ideally full time
