Purpose
To lead the annual UK pay review and budgeting process for 2022/23, supervise of the work of some, or possibly all of the UK Reward Team and oversee and advise HRBPS on the business as usual caseload of the team.
The assignment will be for three months with immediate start. and the team will shortlist as candidates apply.
The UK Reward Team is based within the HR Operations Department which works with teams in shops and offices in the UK and in Oxfam GB Divisions to provide effective operational support and specialist expertise in the fields of reward, recruitment, employee relations and HR operations. HROPs is located within the Operational Division which provides and supports efficient, safe, secure, feminist and partner-led operations which enable the confederation to have greater impact, to ensure the resources entrusted to Oxfam GB and other affiliates are appropriately used and provide effective support to our shops and UK locations.
Activities and deliverables
- Provide expert senior reward input and leadership and ensure compliance with Oxfam GB’s reward principles and policies and financial parameters to deliver a costed annual pay review proposal for consideration by the Strategic Leadership Team as part of the 2021/22 budgeting round.
- Attend relevant internal leadership decision making forums. May also attend external collaborative forums representing OGB’s HR team.
- Provide expert advice on a broad spectrum of strategic and operational Reward matters to HR colleagues and senior leadership
- Provide insight for the business into Reward matters including improvements to existing approaches based on observations during the assignment
- Supervise the work of the UK Reward Team during the term of the assignment
- Attendance at the Pay Governance Group as necessary
- Oversee and support with casework of the UK Reward Team
Pay Review Timetable
October – submit pay market research, confirm benchmarking and update costing model – already commenced
November – Review benchmark jobs and finalise pay market research analysis
December – cost options, review with key stakeholders and agree finalised budget proposal
January – initial union meeting, additional business input
February – budget approved and informal pay review meetings with unions and management

Skills and competencies
Reporting to the Head of HR Operations this assignment requires senior reward management experience in advising on reward case work, managing a team and undertaking complex organisational pay reviews with the ability to step into the role at short notice and lead the annual pay review process for Oxfam GB in the UK.
Access to Oxfam GB’s UK Reward Lead will be available, however, the ability to undertake this assignment autonomously will be paramount as the core purpose of this assignment is to allow her to be released to undertake other critical project work during this period.
You will have:
- Significant experience of leading pay review processes in large complex mutli-site, unionised organisations with multiple stakeholders
- Experience of working for a cause driven organisation and/or in the Charity sector would be useful
- Up to date and in-depth knowledge of current Reward methodologies and good practice
- Experience in contributing to medium-term strategic and operational business planning and delivery of successful outcomes with a positive impact for the business
- Significant experience in advising senior managers on complex reward case work
- Analytical skills, including using data to inform decision making, and being able to weigh up and take decisions when there are unknowns and different possible solutions
- Influencing skills
