ALIMA PRESENTATION

THE ALIMA SPIRIT: ALIMA’s purpose is to save lives and care for the most vulnerable populations, without any discrimination based on identity, religion or politics, through actions based on proximity, innovation and alliance of organizations and individuals. CARE – INNOVATE – TOGETHER: Since its creation in 2009, ALIMA has treated more than 10 million patients, and today deploys its operations in 12 African countries. In 2022, we have developed more than 60 humanitarian medical response projects to meet the needs of populations affected by conflicts, epidemics and extreme poverty. All of these projects support national health authorities through nearly 511 health structures (including 47 hospitals and 464 health centers). We work in partnership, particularly with local NGOs, whenever possible in order to improve access and the transfer of skills which ensures the sustainability of our actions for our patients. Furthermore, to improve the humanitarian response, we are carrying out operational and clinical research projects, particularly to combat malnutrition and viral hemorrhagic fevers.

THE ALIMA TEAM: More than 2,000 people currently work for ALIMA. The field teams, closest to the patients, receive their support from the coordination teams generally based in the capital of the countries of intervention. They receive support from the 4 desk teams and the emergency and openings service team based at the operational headquarters in Dakar, Senegal. The Paris and New York teams are actively working on fundraising and representing ALIMA. The rest of the ALIMA Galaxy includes individuals and partner teams who work on behalf of other organizations such as the medical NGOs BEFEN, ALERTE Santé, SOS Médecins, KEOOGO, AMCP-SP, DEMTOU-Humanitaire, PAC research organizations -CI, Inserm, the Universities of Bordeaux or Copenhagen and many others.

OUR COUNTRIES OF INTERVENTION: Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Guinea, Mali, Mauritania, Niger, Nigeria, Central African Republic, Democratic Republic of Congo, Sudan, Chad, Ukraine.

OUR PROJECT THEMES: Malnutrition, Maternal Health, Primary Health, Pediatrics, Malaria, Epidemics (Ebola, Cholera, Measles, Coronavirus, Lassa Fever), Research, Hospitalization, Emergencies, Gender-Based Violence, vaccinations, mental health, etc.

POSITION LOCATION: The position is based in Port au Prince / Haiti.

PROTECTION OF BENEFICIARIES AND COMMUNITY MEMBERS

Level 3: The position holder is responsible for implementing the recruitment process and may be required to make field visits. He·She may therefore be in contact with children and/or vulnerable adults. Therefore, a criminal record check or presentation of a certificate of good conduct will be necessary. In situations where it is impossible to provide a criminal record or a certificate of good conduct, a sworn declaration will be requested.

FUNCTIONAL AND HIERARCHICAL LINKS

Line supervisor : Head of Mission

Functional supervisor : Operations Communication Manager (at Headquarters in Dakar)

You mainly collaborate with:

  • In your country: the Mission team (Head of Mission, Donor Referent, Project Coordinators, Security Coordinator, Logistics Coordinator, Medical Coordinator, Accounting/Finances, HR, etc.)
  • At Headquarters in Dakar: the Communications Department team, the Desk team (headquarters office supporting several countries) to which you belong, the team responsible for relations with donors (financial partners), as well as the development team in charge of fundraising.

MAIN MISSIONS

In accordance with the strategic orientations and priorities set by the Communication Department, you will be in charge of:

  • Define and produce institutional and operational communication activities linked to the mission;
  • Based on your activity within your scope, contribute more widely to developing the notoriety and image of ALIMA among different targeted audiences at the international level.

Your objectives will be both:

  • Qualitative : develop the visibility of ALIMA through the promotion of the actions of ALIMA and its partners in the country of operation, enhance its image and explain its positioning, generate the interest of the public and technical and financial partners;
  • Quantitative : deliver the number of communication supports required and necessary for the good visibility of ALIMA in the field and among the public, while respecting the deadlines and budgets set.

You will define and monitor the numerical indicators of your performance as part of the reporting to financial partners and as part of the overall estimation of the performance of the Communication Department.

MAIN ACTIVITIES

1. Propose, formalize and implement the 360° communication strategy in the mission

  • Design the Communication part of the proposals (“proposals”) made to financial partners (donors), in coordination with the team responsible for relations with donors and with the validation of the Operations Communication Manager. Ensure their relevance but also their feasibility and their rationalization.
  • Guarantee the implementation of the communication plans defined in the mission:
  • Organize reports on projects in order to produce photo and/or video content – therefore, visit projects to ensure the proper production of this content.
  • Ensure legal compliance in the production of this content (e.g. consent of people taken in photos/videos).
  • Ensure the administrative processes necessary for the production of content (e.g.: quotes/invoices, service provider contracts, etc.).
  • Ensure budgetary monitoring of these activities.
  • After validation by the Head of Mission and the Communications Director, ensure the dissemination of this content to different target audiences – in collaboration with the headquarters communications team.
  • Monitor the geopolitical context and current events impacting ALIMA’s activity in the country.
  • In collaboration with the communications and digital headquarters team, as well as the mission team, develop and deploy 360° communication plans on specific projects (research projects or environmental approach in the mission for example) or during key events (opening of a new project, “breaking news” in the country, etc.).
  • Contribute to the organization of advocacy actions, advocacy events and local capitalization workshops related to ALIMA key projects and topics.

2. Produce and or have produced digital content from the mission, meeting the needs of donors and digital communication in Dakar

  • Guarantee the production of digital content requested by donors, either by producing it yourself, or by independently managing local service providers, according to the required deadlines
  • Provide all digital content requested by the communications department in Dakar, either by producing it yourself, or by independently managing local service providers, according to the required deadlines
  • Ensure that all mission projects benefit from relevant digital coverage: take photos and videos at the right times/significant moments of the project, collect relevant testimonials illustrating the project and its impact
  • Coordinate with the digital communications team in Dakar to take initiatives and offer content relating to the mission, feeding into the digital editorial calendar and not falling under donor obligations (e.g.: portraits of employees, thematic videos for a World Day, etc.)
  • Design and produce content (in various formats – articles, success stories, real stories, etc.) in conjunction with the Headquarters teams.
  • Identify relevant e-influencers to promote and publicize the activities carried out by ALIMA and its mission partners, at the Pan-African and international level (France, USA) and bring them back to Headquarters digital communication.
  • All digital content produced will be imperatively validated and distributed by the digital communication team in Dakar.
  • Develop a “digital communication” reflex within the mission and train staff to make them autonomous in the production of usable photo and video content for ALIMA’s social networks.

3. Actively contribute to press relations

  • Carry out regular media monitoring on relevant subjects in the country of intervention, reporting news that can be used in the media by ALIMA and its partners.
  • Propose a press relations strategy for the mission, including the main national media and especially foreign press correspondents (France, US, UK, etc.), to be validated with the Head of Mission and the Communications department
  • Coordinate with the Communications Department in Dakar to propose, through the service provider’s press relations agency in Paris or New York, subjects that attract the attention of journalists (e.g.: deciphering a piece of news in your country, interview with the head of mission, organization of a report in the field, etc.)
  • Design and produce relevant content and materials for press relations, to be refined with press agencies and communications management: press releases, press kits, infographics, organization of filmed interviews, provision of photos, etc.
  • Identify key journalists covering news and themes in the country of mission. Be identified as a resource person on site by them. “Feed” them regularly with information on the activities of ALIMA and its partners in the country.
  • Develop a “press relations” reflex within the mission and train staff in speaking up.
  • Organize and coordinate possible press visits to the country of mission, in collaboration with the field teams, the Desk and the Communications department – therefore, travel to the country of mission to ensure the smooth running of these visits.

4. Actively contribute to internal communication

  • Relay to the mission team the achievements and news of ALIMA and its partners
  • Promote the mission’s activity to all ALIMA employees and its partners (in coordination with the communications department)
  • Maintain close and regular relations with the pool of ALIMA spokespersons and its partners in the country of operation (e.g.: Head of Mission, General Coordinator, Doctor in the field, etc.) or themes (e.g.: Research, Nutrition) in a manner to be able to activate them easily.

5. Deliver monitoring and analysis with a view to continuous improvement

  • Monitor current events in the country of mission and adapt communication activity accordingly, in conjunction with the Communications Department and the Head of Mission.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

You hold a higher education diploma, Master’s level or equivalent in communication, you have professional experience of at least 3 years minimum in a similar function, experience in coordinating communication and media content. You have experience in photography, videography and design of documents and other documentation products, experience in the humanitarian or associative sector would be a plus. You have technical references in the design and production of 360° communication actions and supports (communication plans, production of content and supports, “pen”, graphic chain, press relations, digital, events, etc.), references in management of complex projects, knowledge of current events and the Haitian context.

LANGUAGES

  • Excellent written and oral expression in French and Creole
  • Good written and oral expression in English
