Overview of position:
- CTG is looking to contract an experience International Aquatic Shredder Captain. The incumbent should have good experience in manaing aqautic machinery / boats etc.
Under the direct supervision of the Project Manager, the incumbent shall perform the following duties:
- Perform a daily inspection of the aquatic shredder, allocated support boats(s) & equipment & provide assistance & guidance to team members under the convoy.
- Responsible for telecommunications & usage of GPS, HF & VHF radio communications to inform Project Manager of progress & position on a regular basis.
- Responsible for all security issues that may arise & always decide safest option & use careful judgement to ensure safe passage.
- In the event of breakdown or recovery, decide upon best course of action to recover boat & / or aquatic shredder in the safest & quickest manner without potential damage being caused by in this exercise.
- Ensure that sufficient funds are available for ad hoc casual labour where applicable.
- Ensure that the boats(s) & aquatic shredders under direct responsibility are thoroughly cleaned & maintained in a good mechanical condition.
- Ensure that the boat & / or aquatic shredder logbook is duly completed on a daily & timely basis free from errors to maintain good records.
- Ensure that the aquatic shedder & support boats(s) are always fuelled on time & make sure that the fuel consumption figures are maintained within the established parameters as set by WFP.
Expected output:
- Held responsible & accountable for aquatic shredder & support boat(s) & any tools or equipment given to the team members (& signed for) & ensure that it remains in good condition.
- Drive always in safe & responsible manner with due respect & attention for other vehicles, property.
- Whilst the aquatic shredder & / or support boats are in the workshop, the captain & the shredder team shall assist in repairs & maintenance activities as required.
- Any incident that may occur must be immediately reported to supervisor & or other parties concerned.
- The Aquatic Shredder Captain will only travel to authorised destination & only clear authorised water ways, under no circumstance shall deviate from this, unless authorised by immediate supervisor.
- Will perform any other duties as requested by supervisor.
Project reporting:
- This role reports to the Project Manager.
Key competencies:
- Minimum of 5 years of demonstrable relevant transport experience on lakes & rivers and /or minimum of 5 years of demonstrable relevant logistics experience.
- Technical / mechanical background is mandatory.
- High school graduate is desired.
- English is essential, fluency in Arabic is a plus.
- At least 5 years minimum experience gained in handling & operating boats & other aquatic machines.
Team management:
- Team management responsibility is desired for this role.
