CONTEXT

Humanity & Inclusion (HI) is an international cooperation organization that intervenes in situations of poverty and exclusion, conflict and disaster. Working alongside people with disabilities and vulnerable populations, it acts and speaks out to meet their basic needs, improve their living conditions and promote respect for their dignity and fundamental rights. Each year, nearly 2 million people benefit from the organization’s actions around the world, implemented by more than 3,000 employees, for a global budget of more than $250 million. In 1997, Humanity & Inclusion shared the Nobel Peace Prize for its work against anti-personnel mines.

As a member of the Humanity & Inclusion Federation, the Canadian National Association (HI Canada) relies on an international operational platform to mobilize Canadians to support the world’s most disadvantaged and discriminated populations. The Federation implements the common social missions of the network, leads the international multi-year strategy and defines the policies and operating rules of the entire network. The national chapters mobilize the resources necessary for the implementation of the social missions, develop the image and reputation of HI, promote the values and positioning of the federal network and participate in the governance bodies of the Federation in their capacity as members. This interdependence between the Federation and the national chapter is based in particular on the dual hierarchical relationship of the Canada Directorate with the President of the national association and the Executive Director of the Federation.

CHALLENGE After 17 years of presence in Canada, Humanity & Inclusion has succeeded in developing a coherent and effective program of institutional partnerships and has gained a good reputation within the humanitarian sector (ministries, NGOs, coalitions and sectoral associations). General Manager HI Canada – August 2022 Today, Humanity & Inclusion aims to position itself in the Canadian philanthropic community and market. Hence, the new management will be responsible for direct philanthropic growth and development in a manner that intensifies the Canadian participation in the large international NGO that is HI – allowing it to accompany even more beneficiaries and strengthen its reputation in Canada. Humanity & Inclusion Canada’s new management team will be responsible for taking the organization to the next level, to fully position it as a key Canadian humanitarian partner, benefiting from the constant support of its supporters in service of the most vulnerable.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Philanthropic development

Responsible for the implementation and performance of fundraising operations as part of the organization’s overall strategy, in close collaboration with the Humanity & Inclusion Federation:

-Contribute to the notoriety and positioning of the Canadian association throughcommunications, public engagement and outreach

-Develop and maintain constructive and impactful relationships with major donors

-Coordinate fundraising efforts and tools for individual donors, foundations, corporations andpartners.

Contribution to the Humanity & Inclusion network

Ensures that the Canadian organization interfaces with the entire network in order to participate in the development of the global organization and to provide Canadian opportunities and added value to the Humanity & Inclusion Federation.

Governance

Responsible for supporting the Board of Directors and following up on its decisions, in close collaboration with the of President of the Board and its various committees.

Operational management of the association

Responsible for the overall management of the organization in Canada:

-Lead and supports staff members in the implementation of their individual action plans andin their professional development

-Oversee the development, implementation and monitoring of annual and multi-year budgets

-Ensure the smooth administrative running of the organization and compliance with rules andregulations, including those of the ARC and the Humanity & Inclusion Federation.

Representation

-Represent the organization, in collaboration with the President of the Board of Directors, tothe media, partners, donors, companies and foundations to increase visibility, raiseawareness and have a positive impact on fundraising and support

-Represent, as needed and in collaboration with the Institutional Partnerships Manager, the organization with the Quebec and Canadian governments and in national and international forums and networks to develop the notoriety, visibility, image and impact of Humanity &Inclusion Canada and its network.

SKILLS & PROFILE

The ideal candidate will have successfully developed and implemented concrete philanthropic strategies and initiatives. He or she will also embody the values of the organization: humanity, inclusion, commitment and integrity. In addition, he or she must adhere to Humanity & Inclusion’s vision: Outraged by the injustice experienced by people with disabilities and vulnerable populations, we aspire to a world of solidarity and inclusion, where all differences enrich us and where everyone can “live upright”.

Education -University degree or equivalent relevant experience (certificate in philanthropic managementan asset) -Very good knowledge of philanthropic development in Canada -Languages: fluency in French and English -Knowledge of management principles (particularly in NPOs and charitable organizations)

Competencies -Minimum of 5 years experience in non-profit or social sector -Experienced in managing teams -Existence of useful contacts and ability to develop a network of external supporters forHumanity & Inclusion Canada -Proven leadership abilities -Ability to develop a vision and strategy as well as implement and monitor it.

Soft skills -Relational skills: demonstrated ability to explain, motivate and engage partners andstakeholders -Leadership: able to inspire confidence and motivate staff and volunteers -Decision-making: able to defend and take responsibility for decisions -Ability to work within an international network -Flexibility, resilience, agility, creativity, listening skills, empathy.

Conditions

Competitive salary and benefits according to the current grid Position based in Montreal Full time permanent contract (35 hours per week).

Team

Permanent employees: 6 people (4 in Montreal, 2 in Ottawa), divided into different sectors: Finance & General Services, Fundraising, Communication, Institutional Partnerships. Board Administrators: 8 people (Montreal).

Travel

As needed in Canada Occasionally in Europe (Lyon) and in the field (West Indies, South America, Africa, Middle East, Asia), a passport is therefore necessary.
