International Security Manager, Iraq based

· Erbil, Iraq. With frequent travel to all Iraq programme locations (Ninewa, Sinjar and Kirkuk areas) and occasional travel, as required to Mission East Programme Locations, including Afghanistan

· Expatriate contract and terms; non-accompanied position.

· 12 month fixed term contract.

Mission East, founded in Denmark in 1991, is an international humanitarian and development organisation undertaking disaster relief and development programmes in Middle East, Eastern Europe and Asia. We deliver emergency relief during disasters as well as long-term development assistance. We are based on Christian values. Mission East works to support vulnerable people and help local communities lift themselves out of poverty and marginalisation. We work directly with our beneficiaries or through local and international partners. We constantly strive to strengthen the relevance, effect and sustainability of our programmes.

In Iraq, Mission East provides assistance for both urgent basic needs for those displaced by violence as well as longer-term support for returnees and IDPs in protracted displacement settings. Our current programme includes NFI and shelter, cash transfers, WASH assistance, livelihoods support, protection and psychosocial support activities delivered through multi-purpose community centres.

This role combines international security management for Mission East, with Country Security Management for Mission East Iraq through a management role in Iraq and an advisory role for Afghanistan, Tajikistan, Nepal and other future programme locations. Able to display an understanding of and sympathy with Mission East’s organisational mission, vision and values, you will bring a minimum 3 years of experience from working as a Security Manager in a hostile environments / conflict- afflicted areas within humanitarian/recovery context and an in-depth knowledge of risk management and associated principles.

You will have proven networking and relationship building skills and an approachable, empathetic and open style with cross cultural awareness and sensitivity and a respect for local customs and protocols. With excellent communication, networking, analytical and decision-making skills, you will display an ability to diffuse tensions, remain calm at all times and encourage and motivate others, particularly during or following an incident.

The position is expected to have considerable travelling demands and you will be flexible and able to travel at short notice to difficult and risky areas.
