IDLO internship programs are designed to provide a mutually beneficial relationship between IDLO and university students, young graduates, post-graduate students, or persons similarly situated (collectively referred to as Interns). IDLO offers interns an exceptional learning experience in an international organization and increases their awareness and knowledge of legal issues in the development arena. Internships also benefit IDLO by allowing participants to contribute their skills and competencies to the realization of IDLO’s strategic goals and mission. Interns are fully involved in the work program of the Unit or Department that has selected them to carry out assignments relevant to their studies and experiences under the supervision of IDLO staff.

IDLO provides all full-time interns for The Hague Office with a monthly stipend of €700. Internships are offered for 3 months and are renewable up to a maximum of 6 months. Applicants available for less than 5 days a week will not be considered.

IDLO seeks an Intern for an interesting professional learning opportunity to contribute to the work of IDLO’s Evaluation Unit based at The Hague Office with a start in March 2024. Under the supervision of the Head of Evaluation Unit, the intern will be asked to support the Evaluation Unit with the following duties:

  • Support ongoing evaluation initiatives, including the development of evaluation Terms of Reference, review of evaluation design, and review of draft evaluation reports.
  • Support the update and analysis of information on IDLO programmes.
  • Support with setup of meetings, webinars, and events.
  • Contribute towards the programmatic and policy advocacy work of IDLO’s The Hague Office.
  • Assist with developing, proofreading, formatting, and finalizing documentation.
  • Other similar duties as assigned by Supervisor.

Job Requirements

Educational qualifications

  • Advanced university degree, preferably in Evaluation. Candidates with background in international law, human rights, international development, or public policy with strong experience in research methodologies, statistics, or evaluation techniques will also be considered. Familiarity with both quantitative and qualitative research methods is required.

Work experience

  • Previous internships or volunteer work in NGOs, international organizations, law firms focusing on international law or human rights, or government agencies dealing with foreign affairs or development aid will be an asset.

Languages

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English are required. Working knowledge of French and/or Spanish is an advantage.

Technical competencies

  • Ability to analyze and synthesize development programme documents, policies, and data.
  • Practical experience with clear, concise writing.
  • Strong ability to draft and revise documents and handle business correspondence.
  • Basic understanding of project management principles will be beneficial.
  • Advanced digital skills, and in a particular excellent ability to use Microsoft Office package.
  • Excellent level of attention to detail.

Behavioral competencies

  • Good team player, positive attitude, adaptable, keen sense of cultural sensitivity.
  • Demonstrated ability to work proactively and independently, as well as in a small team, and doing so in a well-organized manner and exercising sound judgment.
  • Commitment to international development and the rule of law.
