Internship: Finance – Accounting and Internal Controls At Search for Common Ground

As an Internal Controls intern, you will provide accounting, internal audit and administrative support to the team’s activities. The intern will have an opportunity to learn how accounting, internal controls and policies are implemented within a diverse international NGO. You will report directly to the Director of Internal Controls.

We want our interns to make the most of this experience. To this end, we ask every intern to develop a set of strategic learning objectives at the beginning of their internship with their supervisor, outlining their key learning and professional development needs. Search for Common Ground’s staff will work with you to ensure assignments are relevant to these learning objectives, and that you continue to grow throughout your internship. Preference will be made to those applicants available to start immediately.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the compiling and review of supporting documentation for various audits
  • Assist with updating policy documents, including financial forms
  • Research of Donor Regulations, prepare recommendations regarding SFCG’s current policies
  • Track Legal and Regulatory Compliance Issues for International NGOs
  • Filing and Organizing
  • Assist in the reconciling of Corporate Credit Card
  • Assist with preparation of Standard Operating Procedures for Finance Department
  • Assist with updating or creating powerpoint presentations that explain policies
  • Assist with gathering and organizing administrative information, such as procurement limits, property inventories, information about bank accounts
  • Basic accounting issues and reconciliations
  • Other tasks as may be assigned from time to time by the Finance Mana

Qualifications

  • Candidate must have the following qualifications

Required

  • Current student or graduate majoring in Accounting
  • Prior completion of at least one course on Auditing
  • A desire to work in the nonprofit accounting field
  • Strong, hard-working work ethic
  • Excellent analytical skills with proficiency in Excel and other software
  • Self-starting, enthusiastic and flexible approach to the organization
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Highly developed research and problem-solving ability

Highly Desirable

  • Comprehension of French-language financial documents
  • Ability to read Arabic financial documents a plus
  • Previous experience working with Sage Intacct
  • Ability to work well individually as well as a member of a team
  • Strong people and presentation skills
