Internship: Finance – Accounting and Internal Controls At Search for Common Ground

As Finance and Accounting Intern, you will provide accounting, internal audit, and
administrative support to the team’s activities. The intern will have an opportunity to
learn how accounting, internal controls and policies are implemented within a diverse
international NGO.

If you are a student and would like to earn course credit from your internship, we are
willing to work with you to develop a rigorous workload that is relevant to your field of
study and professional interests.

We want our interns to make the most of this experience. To this end, we ask every
intern to develop a set of strategic learning objectives at the beginning of their internship
with their supervisor, outlining their key learning and professional development needs.
Search for Common Ground’s staff will work with you to ensure assignments are
relevant to these learning objectives, and that you continue to grow throughout your
internship.

Key Responsibilities:

Roles and responsibilities include

  • Assist in the compiling and review of supporting documentation for various audits
  • Assist with updating policy documents, including financial forms
  • Research of Donor Regulations, prepare recommendations regarding SFCG’s
  • current policies
  • Track Legal and Regulatory Compliance Issues for International NGOs
  • Assist with preparation of Standard Operating Procedures for Finance
  • Department
  • Assist with updating or creating presentations that explain policies
  • Assist with gathering and organizing administrative information, such as
  • procurement limits, property inventories, information about bank accounts
  • Basic accounting issues and reconciliations
  • Filing and Organizing
  • Other tasks as may be assigned from time to time

undertake other duties that are broadly in line with the above key responsibilities.

Qualifications:
You meet the following qualifications:

Required:

  • Current student or graduate majoring in Accounting
  • Prior completion of at least one course on Auditing
  • A desire to work in the nonprofit accounting field
  • Strong, hard-working work ethic
  • Excellent analytical skills with proficiency in Excel and other software
  • Self-starting, enthusiastic and flexible approach to the organization
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Highly developed research and problem-solving ability

Highly Desirable:

  • Comprehension of French-language financial documents
  • Ability to read Arabic financial documents a plus
  • Previous experience working with Sage Intacct
  • Ability to work well individually as well as a member of a team
  • Strong people and presentation skills

Salary: This is an unpaid internship
