Organisational background

The Jesuit Refugee Service (JRS) is ministry of the Society of Jesus (the Jesuit order), incorporated as an international non-governmental organisation with a mission to accompany, serve, and advocate for the rights of refugees and forcibly displaced people. The organisation was founded in November 1980 and now has a presence in over 50 countries. JRS undertakes services at national and regional levels with the support and guidance of an international office (IO) in Rome. JRS service is human and spiritual, working in situations of greatest need, seeking the long-term well-being of refugees and displaced people while not neglecting their immediate or urgent needs. The main services provided are in the field of education, emergency assistance, and psychosocial support and livelihood activities. Currently, more than 1,000,000 individuals are direct beneficiaries of JRS projects.

Operational context

The Jesuit Refugee Service’s International Office in Rome is seeking a technical professional to join its Communications and Fundraising team as a Fundraising Assistant, donor database management. The Fundraising Assistant will report to the Director of Communications and Fundraising to assist in the management and raising of funds to support the mission of the organization. This includes managing sensitive donor information, gift entries, and building dynamic reports. The position will liaise with the Finance and Logistics, Programmes and Innovation Departments, and the IT unit for the management of financial information within the Salesforce and Navision platforms. The position is currently part-time, but with room for growth

Key Responsibilities

The Fundraising Assistant, Donor Database Management will:

  • Sort, organize, and enter data in the CRM (Salesforce NPSP).
  • Create new records and update existing ones.
  • Manage data and ensure that records are accurate, up to date, robust, and clean.
  • In coordination with the Programmes and Innovation and the Finance and Logistic departments, guarantee accuracy of data for the correct reconciliation of funds taking into consideration processing channels, donors’ motivation and designation of the funds.
  • Work closely with other staff members for the preparation of data reports to generate statistics and benchmarking.
  • Work closely with other staff members to produce acknowledgements and ensure that donors’ information and project and program documentation is correctly stored in the CRM.
  • Act as point of reference for the integration of the CRM with other fundraising and email marketing tools.
  • Prepare training materials for the use of the CRM.
  • Work closely with other JRS Offices for the enhancement of the CRM to better respond to the needs of the organization.
  • Perform ad hoc donor research to complement and insert additional or missing information into the CRM.
  • Help to build pipelines for major gifts.
  • Assist Communications and Fundraising department with the organization and realization of fundraising campaigns, events, and donor visits.

Qualifications and Competencies

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field;
  • One or two years of relevant experience in donor database management, additional experience in fundraising and with the nonprofit sector is a plus.
  • Solid computer skills: Salesforce, Microsoft Office, and other financial related software experience preferred.
  • Other donation and newsletter platforms knowledge preferred.
  • Keen analytic, organization, high attention to details and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and ability to develop key working relationships.

Terms and Conditions

Please note that this position is only open to candidates who possess EU citizenship or other legal authorization to work in the European Union.

Contract for this part-time position is for one year, renewable, with an initial probationary period of 3 months. The JRS remuneration policy is aligned with the JRS ethos to offer effective and professional services and at the same time express solidarity with the people served.
