Italy – Security Advisor At COOPI – International Cooperation

COOPI is looking for a Security Advisor for its Milan office

The Security Advisor is part of the International Activities Unit of COOPI, operates at the Headquarters in Milan and reports to the Management. He works remotely with the countries where the Foundation is present and can carry out missions abroad.

Main responsibilities and activities

The assignment includes:

  • Updating of COOPI procedural and programmatic documents in the field of safety: regulations, operational plans, contingency plans, freezing, checklists;
  • Setting up and drafting new policies , procedures, monitoring tools for specific aspects relating to the sector;
  • Review and update of country regulations in close relation with COOPI offices at headquarters and abroad, and monitoring of their implementation;
  • Setting up training modules to be delivered – on site and from – on the correct use of sector procedures;
  • Setting up training modules that can be used directly by security managers in the countries (heads of mission, security coordinators);
  • Selection, initial training and updating of foreign branch staff on risk prevention and safety management issues;
  • Develop and disseminate a culture of safety behavior at all levels;
  • Support in identifying risk assessment indicators and criteria;
  • Remote support service, upon request of the country, for the verification and resolution of specific situations;
  • Participation, where requested, in committees and meetings both internal and external to the organization, on related topics, with feedback, dissemination and updating of useful information;
  • Monitoring, control, training and assistance missions on specific cases;
  • Management of the COOPI emergency number .

Profile wanted

Essential requirements

  • University / Post-University training, preferably in the field of International Cooperation, completed by specific courses on the topics of prevention and management of security in the humanitarian field ;
  • At least 5 years of experience as a Security Advisor in an NGO or even in management roles in humanitarian crisis contexts, with specific tasks in the field of prevention and safety at work;
  • Excellent knowledge of French and English ; good knowledge of Spanish ;
  • Ability to work in a complex international organization;
  • Knowledge of the typical contexts of humanitarian aid and of the main institutional actors in the sector;
  • Experience in countries with high risk factors;
  • Knowledge of international regulatory rules on the prevention of safety risks and of the experiences developed in the sector by international organizations;
  • Ability to collect, analyze, process and synthesize relevant data , in order of priority and relevance;
  • Ability to identify management solutions starting from specific and contextual elements;
  • Ability to communicate the problems and solutions identified , with particular discernment and confidentiality, with respect to the various interlocutors at different levels;
  • Precision, attention to rules and details without losing sight of contextual elements;
  • Correctness and technical rigor in drafting policies, procedures, regulations, written reports; also in the different working languages ​​(Italian, English, French);
  • Flexibility and speed in responding to priorities and emergencies.

Desirable requirements

  • Previous experience abroad in the field of humanitarian interventions;
  • Previous experience in coordination roles with COOPI abroad.
