Junior Technical advisor At Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH

  1. Project Brief:

The project “Strengthening Resilience of IDPs, Returnees and Host Communities in Baidoa District, Somalia” aims at improving employment opportunities for the target group, especially for young people and women. Because of the volatile security situation in Baidoa, the project is being managed remotely from Nairobi but there is a team of technical staff in Baidoa at the project office site.

  1. Scope of the Role:

The junior technical advisor for Monitoring and Evaluation and Communication supports the project in monitoring, reporting and communication of results and impact data. The junior technical advisor surveys the project’s activities, controls and ensures quality of the monitoring, using GIZ internal tools and following the guidelines.

  1. Tasks
  • Monitor the results and impact data of the project according to the projects’ outputs, outcomes and indicators
  • Communicate the results with GIZ staff, to the public and the commissioning parties
  • Control and quality assurance of the annual monitoring cycle of the project on a global level (Wirkungsdatenabfrage) as well as any other monitoring needs arising from HQ
  • Survey impact and results data from the project and compile them in an appropriate way
  • Report on all the indicators to which the project contributes
  • Use the GIZ internal tools for monitoring and evaluation, results data monitoring and results communication (impact monitor, Onsite Operations, Onsite Reporting etc.)
  • Gather the results data to make statements on the project’s work, communicate those results with the public in Somalia and Kenya and the commissioning party
  • Follow GIZ guidelines and GIZ internal tools, as well as GIZ rules and processes
  • Promote the exchange of knowledge on monitoring within the team and within the Somalia project portfolia
  • Implement all administrative processes in accordance with GIZ regulations.
  1. Required Qualifications, Competences and Experiences
  • Bachelor’s Degree in an area related to the project
  • Professional experiance in Monitoring and evaluation
  • Professional experience in Communications
  • Professional experience in international cooperation
  • Excellent knowledge of the English language, especially excellent writing skills in English
  • Excellent knowledge of the Somali language, especially excellent writing skills in Somali
  • Experience in text writing, editing and proofreading
  • Excellent working knowledge of communication systems, such as related software, MS Outlook, MS Teams, MS Office
  • Experience in graphic design is a great asset
  • Strong interpersonal skills, work experience in an intercultural environment is an asset
  • Knowledge in formal events planning and good management skills are an asset
  • Ability to work in an intercultural team, as well as analytical and communicative skills presumed
  • Proactive attitude towards personal growth and institutional changes are presumed
