Project: Improved Food Security, Livelihood, And Resilience For 10,000 Vulnerable Households in Laikipia County
Location: Naibor & Kandutura
1. Background
Habitat for Humanity Kenya (HFHK) has partnered with Habitat for Humanity Deutschland (HFHD) to address the severe drought impacts in Laikipia County. This integrated project aims to enhance food security, improve access to clean water, empower communities through smart livelihoods, and advocate for disaster preparedness. To showcase the project’s impact and highlight donor contributions, HFHK seeks a professional media firm to produce a high-quality documentary.
2. Objective of the Documentary
To create a compelling documentary that:
• Showcases the project’s impact on food security, water access, and livelihoods.
• Highlights community empowerment stories and partnerships with Laikipia County Government.
• Amplifies donor visibility, particularly HFHD and Aktion Deutschland Hilft (ADH).
• Advocates for long-term interventions addressing climate change and disaster resilience.
3. Scope of Work
The contractor will:
1. Develop a storyboard and script in consultation with HFHK.
2. Visit project sites in Kandutura (Rumuruti) and Naibor (Nanyuki) to capture activities, including:
• Cash transfer beneficiaries.
• School feeding programs in the four targeted primary schools.
• Water kiosks and borehole operations.
• Women and youth groups’ smart livelihood activities (e.g., shade nets and drip irrigation).
• Community advocacy events (PASSA approach).
3. Conduct interviews with:
• Project beneficiaries (households, women, youth).
• HFHK representatives.
• County government officials and key stakeholders.
4. Deliver a 15-20 minute documentary, a 3-minute highlights version and a minimum of 50 high-resolution photographs of project activities and beneficiaries.
Key milestones include:
• Day 1 to Day 4: Development of storyboard and script & Field visits and content capture.
• Day 5-10 or 12: First draft submission & Final submission after HFHK review.
Deliverables
• A professionally produced documentary (15-20 minutes) showcasing project milestones.
• A 3-minute highlights reel for social media and events.
• A minimum of 50 high-resolution photographs of project activities and beneficiaries.
• Subtitles in English and Swahili.

DOCUMENTARY GENERAL GUIDANCE
1. Storytelling Focus
✓ Emphasize the human element: Capture personal stories that highlight the project’s impact on beneficiaries’ lives.
✓ Showcase transformation: Document “before and after” scenarios where possible, to illustrate progress and resilience.
✓ Highlight diversity: Feature different groups (children, women, youth, elders) and their unique experiences.
2. Cultural Sensitivity
✓ Respect the community’s customs, language, and privacy.
✓ Seek informed consent before recording interviews or taking photographs. I have 100 copies of Consent form ready for you at the HFHK Offices.

✓ Prioritize natural settings that show the community’s environment and project outcomes (e.g., boreholes, farms, schools).
✓ Use wide shots to capture the scale of interventions and close-ups to emphasize personal narratives.
4. Partnership Recognition
✓ Ensure visible branding of HFHK staff in interviews, project sites, and relevant visuals. (Jared Rabuto in Laikipia, Nixon Otieno and James Waithaka in Nairobi)
✓ Capture moments showcasing collaboration between HFHK and the Laikipia County Government and other partners.

3. Lighting
Use natural lighting effectively for outdoor shoots and additional equipment for indoor settings.
4. B-roll Footage
Include dynamic footage of community life, landscapes, and ongoing project activities to provide visual context.
