The Program
The Fair Finance Asia (FFA) program is a five-year program funded by the Swedish Embassy in Bangkok, Thailand. It aims to contribute to the reduction of the negative impact of cross-border investments on human rights, the environment and climate change, particularly those made by multinational financial institutions, banks and insurers, and to increase inclusive economic development. Currently, FFA is operational at regional level and in 8 countries across Asia, namely – Cambodia, India, Indonesia, Japan, Pakistan, Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam – wherein national FFA civil society organization (CSO) coalitions together with regional partners lead research and engagement with the program’s key stakeholders including financial regulatory and policymaking institutions, banking and investment associations, multilateral development banks and the academia. FFA’s regional program management unit is stationed in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.
The FFA program works in close alignment with the Fair Finance Guide International (FFGI) which operates in 9 countries globally. FFGI’s assessment reports on the policy and practices of banks and insurers at national level are envisaged to form part of FFA’s influencing and engagement toolkit in promoting sustainable finance and responsible investments.
The results areas for the FFA program are as follows:
- Improved practices of financial sector actors: Financial sector actors, operating at national and regional level in Asia, adhere to ESG and HR criteria and are more transparent and accountable in relation to companies they invest in and customers they serve
- Improved policies financial sector actors: Financial sector actors, operating at national and regional level in Asia, adhere to ESG and HR criteria; and improved political will among influentials and sector associations.
- Improved regulations and its enforcement on integration of ESG and HR criteria in the financial sector by national governments and other financial sector regulators; and improved political will among influentials
- Stronger and wide alliances established and strengthened with FFA/CSO coalitions successfully engaged with other stakeholders at national and/or regional level; and the start-up of a regional multi-stakeholder dialogue creating the conditions for a regional multi-stakeholder initiative on sustainable finance.
- Capacity strengthening CSOs: CSOs and their FFA/CSO coalitions at national level strengthened on research, monitoring and influencing the financial sector; and participate in or initiate influencing and advocacy efforts on promotion of a transparent and accountable financial sector
- Increased awareness and voice: People taking action campaigning, demanding and/or engaging for a transparent and accountable financial sector that integrates ESG & HR criteria.
Job Purpose
FFA is seeking an experienced Knowledge & Communication Manager with a profound understanding of the international development and financial sector, sustainable finance, and responsible investments. The Knowledge & Communication Manager will implement FFA’s strategic communications framework in close collaboration with the Research and Advocacy Specialist and Program Lead, in line with the FFA regional influencing strategy. This role will also work closely with the Program Officer, Research & Advocacy, in coordinating policy advocacy and campaigning initiatives with FFA partners. She/he is expected to shape and launch high impact communications tools and advocacy materials and, implement effective engagement plans, and work closely with FFA national partners to strategically position FFA as a regional thought leader and convenor on sustainable finance. Moreover, the Knowledge & Communication Manager will manage FFA’s overall branding, messaging, and will undertake communications outreach.
Job Responsibilities
External Communications & Campaigns
- Lead the implementation of FFA’s communication framework which builds on Fair Finance country coalition strategies/work programs, and ensure the strategy is aligned with FFA’s regional priorities.
- Lead the management of the regional FFA social media outreach tools including regular content updates and tracking of relevant metrics.
- Lead the preparation, production and dissemination of communications products (e.g., media packets, news releases, brochures, Q&As, presentations, briefing notes, speeches, newsletters, etc.) about FFA.
- Review, advise on, and as appropriate prepare, high-profile presentation/speeches, talking points, blogs, and op-eds.
- Contribute to the systematic identification of human stories, case studies, and smart practices that have the potential to capture the attention of wide range of audiences and key influencing targets for FFA.
- End to end development and dissemination of all communication and advocacy materials.
Internal Communications
- In collaboration with relevant Executive team members, coordinate with country teams to ensure a coherent approach that enhances national influencing and campaigning that align with the overall FFA regional strategy.
- Ensure that relevant FFA knowledge products and advocacy materials are showcased in Oxfam’s internal communications and social media platforms.
- Forge and maintain internal (Oxfam-wide) contacts particularly with communications and campaigning counterparts in relevant programs within the region and other financial sector influencing initiatives globally.
- Advise FFA partners on communication trends, news developments, or changing/unexpected circumstances that may impact their work, and determine appropriate strategic responses.
- Ensure quality and assess the sensitivity of messages in communication materials produced within the FFA network.
- Work closely with other staff / team/s charged with developing and monitoring high visibility communications plans and activities.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Coordinate the organization and management of stakeholder meetings, and ensure that knowledge products and resources developed by FFA coalitions are shared and referenced by appropriate target audiences.
- Coordinate the organization of webinars, events and roundtable done at the regional level, and work with the FFA Support Officer to ensure that the work is completed effectively.
- Deliver meeting reports from abovementioned meetings and engagement initiatives working closely with relevant Executive Team members.
- Support the curation and update of stakeholder mapping, and prepare relevant communication materials to stakeholders as well as respond to stakeholder requests and enquiries.
Website Management
- Manage regular updates of the FFA website with enhanced user experience and strategic, evidence-based information architecture that utilizes consistent taxonomy and high quality content templates.
- Implement guidelines for maintaining website content fresh and relevant, and coordinate partner and stakeholder contributions.
- Establish regular standard reporting mechanisms on analytics, utilizing qualitative feedback and quantitative data to present necessary improvements on the website and other relevant communication platforms.
- Work with ICT Specialist in maintaining the website.
- Work with the Program Officer, Research & Advocacy in ensuring that all the knowledge products and materials on the website are up-to-date.
Job requirements
Essential
- Thorough knowledge of and practical experience in a range of communications approaches, tools and methodologies essential to planning, executing, and monitoring communications strategies including the latest technologies, web trends and developments, and the shifting communications environment;
- Profound knowledge on sustainable finance and public affairs and the ability to address a range of issues, including taking the lead on highly visible and sensitive assignments;
- Substantial and diverse experience in creating and shaping a knowledge and communications strategy and in running an integrated multimedia communications operation;
- Ability to develop and tailor complex content/information into clear messages in an accessible way to different audiences;
- Exceptional verbal communication skills, strong writing skills, and experience publicly representing organizations, whether in speaking engagements or meeting with senior representatives;
- Demonstrated ability to coordinate/manage planning and executing complex communications plans that often involve multiple teams and stakeholders;
- Ability to operate effectively with all levels of staff, both as a team leader and team member;
- Proven ability to think strategically and rapidly analyse diverse information from varied sources and an ability to learn, adapt, and to be innovative as new communications challenges arise;
- Experience managing a branding strategy and managing a regional/global brand
- Experience working in civil society context.
Education
- University degree in Communications, International Relations, Public Affairs, Journalism, or other related fields.
Experience
- At least 7-8 years of relevant professional experience in positions of increasing complexity and responsibility preferably in Asia;
- Native speaker or native fluency in English.
