Function:
The Knowledge Manager will lead Heifer International’s Knowledge Management function. They will be responsible for organizing and improving access to knowledge across the organization to help increase the scale and impact of Heifer International’s work with millions of people around the world.
The position will assess current knowledge management practices within Heifer International and build upon them, with the goal of establishing, refining and continuously improving the organization’s knowledge management approach, putting in place new systems, processes and a new knowledge management platform that enhances knowledge generation, capture, sharing and application.
The new knowledge management platform will promote and contribute to a culture of knowledge-sharing, including best practices, lessons learned and results.
This is a remote position. We are looking for candidates who are able to work remotely in the U.S., or Asia (India, Bangladesh, Nepal), Latin Americas (Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras, Ecuador, or Nicaragua), or Africa (Rwanda, Kenya, Tanzania). RESPONSIBILITIES & DELIVERABLES
A. Establish and implement knowledge management strategy, processes and platform (30%)
· Collaborate with teams across the organization (country, regional and HQ) to assess current knowledge management practices and operational needs
· Streamline knowledge management practices globally
· Partner with teams to develop and execute knowledge management strategy, aligned with Heifer’s strategic focus and industry best practices
· Oversee development of new knowledge management methods, processes, tools and platform, with user-focused approach to capture knowledge and learning across all levels of the organization and its partners
· Project manage design and build consultants for new knowledge management platform and oversee budget
· Work closely with IT Services and system stakeholders/managers to ensure new knowledge management platform fully integrates with existing Heifer tools and systems
· Launch new knowledge management platform and work with teams across the organization to ensure that knowledge and learning is effectively captured and accessible in knowledge management tool
B. Regularly update knowledge management platform and ensure knowledge is easy to access and use across the organization (25%)
· Service and respond to requests for information and knowledge from teams across the organization, helping them to navigate and understand available information and knowledge
· Train and educate staff on knowledge management practices, systems and tools
· Develop sustainable approaches to content generation and capture, and information use to promote a culture of continuous knowledge sharing
· Identify and stay current with industry best practices and useful approaches to share and access knowledge
C. Contribute to building a learning- led culture across the organization (20%)
· Partner with teams to build, develop and cultivate a culture of knowledge and learning
· Shape and influence how organization approaches knowledge management
· Establish usable learning approach for the organization that fosters systems thinking, shared vision, and team and individual learning
· Train teams, and periodically reinforce trainings, on learning approach
· Create accountability mechanisms to ensure system take-up
D. Identify opportunities to showcase organization’s work (20%)
· Work with Communications, Programs, Content, Fundraising teams to curate content for external audiences and channels
· Identify information and content that connects to and adds depth to current work and messaging
· Identify and promote conference and publication opportunities for staff and research partners to support Heifer’s profile
E. Perform other job-related duties as required (5%)
Minimum Requirements
a. Experience working with knowledge management frameworks, experience with USAID, DFID/FCDO or World Bank projects preferred
b. Demonstrated ability to develop, design and establish new systems and/or approaches in the knowledge management space with user-focused approach
c. Experience working in the international development and/or agriculture sector
d. Bachelor’s degree
e. Minimum of five (5) years’ job-specific experience
f. Fluent in English
Preferred Requirements
a. Project management expertise, including building an organization-wide online knowledge management platform
b. Demonstrated experience working with IT and backend web design/building support teams
c. Demonstrated experience creating user-focused platforms
d. Business development and proposal development experience
e. Fluent in Spanish
f. Demonstrated experience driving learning led organizations
