IRVD is implementing projects through regional offices in Syria, Turkey, Lebanon, Yemen, Sudan, Iraq, Palestine, and Somalia.
Our work sectors are Health, Nutrition, Education, Food Security and Livelihoods (FSL), Protection, Shelter & Non-food items, Wash and Sanitation.
IRVD also manages development projects, advocates to empower civil societies and local governance.
Job Description
IRVD is seeking lab technician assistant in the Blood Bank that provides essential support to the laboratory team in processing blood donations, performing routine tests, and maintaining laboratory equipment and supplies. This entry-level position is responsible for assisting with various tasks to ensure the efficient and accurate operation of the blood bank department under the supervision of the lab technician and other senior staff.
Responsibilities:
- Assist with the processing of blood donations, including centrifugation, separation of blood components, and preparation of blood products for transfusion.
- Perform basic laboratory tests on blood samples, such as blood typing, antigen screening, and compatibility testing, following established procedures and protocols.
- Prepare reagents, solutions, and other materials used in laboratory testing, ensuring accuracy and proper labelling.
- Clean and sterilize laboratory equipment and glassware and maintain cleanliness of work areas according to established protocols.
- Assist with inventory management tasks, including receiving and stocking supplies, monitoring expiration dates, and maintaining accurate records.
- Dispose of biohazardous waste and hazardous materials in accordance with safety regulations and institutional policies.
- Perform clerical tasks, such as data entry, filing, and record keeping, to maintain accurate documentation of laboratory procedures and test results.
- Assist with specimen collection and labelling, and transport specimens to designated laboratory areas as needed.
- Follow all safety protocols and procedures for handling biohazardous materials, chemicals, and laboratory equipment to minimize risks to self and others.
- Participate in training and continuing education activities to enhance technical skills and knowledge in blood banking and laboratory operations.

- Willingness to learn and take on new responsibilities as directed by supervisory staff.
- Ability to lift and move heavy objects and stand for extended periods during laboratory procedures.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree in a related field preferred.
- Previous experience in a laboratory or healthcare setting is preferred but not required.
- Basic knowledge of laboratory procedures and safety practices preferred.
Languages:
- Arabic and English are mandatory (oral and written)
