Legal advisory consultancy services At ZOA

  1. Objective of the support:

ZOA International would like to procure legal advisory services on an annual retainer basis to support operations and daily practices of ZOA in Uganda

ZOA is registered as an International NGO in Uganda as a branch of ZOA International. With a staff team of 95, including 2 expatriates, ZOA has need of legal advisory services as per the scope of work below

To this end ZOA is seeking to hire qualified and suitable Ugandan legal services through a competitive process, with a start date of 1st August 2024, allowing for immediate briefing and handover with the current legal advisors (if relevant).

  1. Scope of work
  • Consultation and providing legal opinions, for situations that require legal advice pertaining to NGO law, Employment law, contracts, general legal compliance, data protection, MoUs with Ugandan authorities and general legal matters affecting the operations of ZOA International in Uganda
  • Support in legal review of policies in line with the Uganda Laws.
  • Attendance at meetings for legal representation as required
  • Official correspondence or legal letters on behalf of ZOA, certifying and legalizing official certificates and documents
  • Supplier contract review and advice on any issues arising from supplier contract delivery / failure to deliver
  • Support to immigration services (for current 2 expat staff) and advisory regarding the same
  • Other legal matters as identified by the firm and to be advised/outline within the selection process.

The applying firm should outline:

  • Specific services to be included within the retainer agreement, including any which are not outlined under “Scope of work” above, but which the firm advises that ZOA includes, based on your knowledge of the nature of ZOA’s work and operations
  • Specific services which are not included within the retainer agreement, which the firm would be able to provide on request, and which would be billed separately
  • Billing rates for the services which are not included under the retainer agreement
  • Personnel, their qualifications and experience, who would be assigned to support the ZOA account
  • Details of other organizations (preferably NGOs) that the firm provides similar advisory services to; ZOA would seek references from organizations named.
