Legal Analyst At Global Rights Compliance

About Us:

Global Rights Compliance (GRC) is an international human rights law and development firm based in the Hague, committed to promoting international law, particularly international humanitarian law (IHL) and human rights.

GRC is seeking a full-time consultant to join its team as a Legal Analyst for the project titled “Advancing International Accountability for Atrocities through Evidence Analysis in Iraq”.

The focus of the job is to provide legal research, analysis, drafting and evidence review in English and Arabic, as well as to act as a mentor in these areas.

The main goal of the project is to support stakeholders in Duhok to integrate international law standards in efforts to deal with international crimes and to organise, process and mobilise evidence of international crimes.

DUTY STATION: Iraq, Duhok
CONTRACT DURATION: 1 year

Qualifications and background:

The following qualifications are required:

  • Advanced degree (JD, Master’s degree or equivalent) in law is required. A first level university degree in combination with at least two additional years of qualifying experience in international criminal law may be accepted in lieu of an advanced university degree.
  • Practical legal and/or analytical experience in the field of international criminal law;
  • Strong and demonstrable research, drafting and analytical skills;
  • Respect for confidentiality;
  • Arabic and English fluency (reading, writing, speaking);
  • Exceptional organisational and time management skills and attention to detail;
  • Willingness and ability to work from an office in Duhok.

The following qualifications are strongly preferred:

  • Knowledge of and/or experience working in the Iraqi context;
  • Practical experience working within international tribunals, international legal accountability mechanisms or accountability-focused non-governmental organizations;
  • Experience in delivering training and mentorship;
  • Knowledge of Kurdish.

The consultancy will be based in Duhok, Iraq. GRC offers competitive fees.
