Title: Legal Officer (Lawyer)

Reporting to: Programs Coordinator

Location: Gaziantep, Türkiye

Position Status: Full time

Length of Contract: 6 Months – with possible extension

About Amal Healing & Advocacy Center

Amal Healing & Advocacy Center (AHAC) is a women-led organization that specialized in empowering women, who have experienced psychological symptoms resulting from social and sexual violence within their family or community.

AHAC seeks to contribute to creating a change in the status of women in Syrian society and to support them in becoming more aware of their rights and opportunities.

The motivation to start the organization was led by the desire to contribute to building a Syrian society based on fair and equal human rights in an independent civil state.

The organization was founded in 2014 in Antakya, Turkey, which is located near the Syrian-Turkish border and strives to respond to the needs of Syrian refugee women, survivors of violence in particular.

AHAC recognizes its responsibility to protect children from harm in all areas of its work. AHAC is committed to ensuring a child-safe environment and is applying a zero-tolerance approach toward any kind of child abuse and exploitation.

About the job vacancy:

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide a legal consultation and support on Turkish and Syrian law, including family law, domestic violence, immigration, human rights and relates to it, in general.
  • Conduct and supervise legal workshops and awareness sessions in different topics that support the beneficiaries in recent context.
  • Progress follows up to the hot-line calls by responding to legal inquiries and requests from internal and external Referral in accordance with a case management process in a timely and professional manner.
  • Provide Legal services physically as a consultation session inside the center.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including finance, operations, and human resources, to address legal issues and support activities initiatives.
  • Ensure that the organization’s activities and operations are conducted in compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and ethical standards.
  • Conduct and participate in legal research, documents, briefs and advocacy campaign with additional legal representation with donors actions .
  • Provide accurate reports monthly, quarterly and trackers of activities in details with analyzing the timeline of legal team outcomes and improvements.
  • Collaborate with other staff members to provide holistic support services.
  • Stay informed about changes in laws and regulations affecting women’s rights.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with legal aid organizations, law enforcement, and other relevant entities.
  • Perform other legal tasks and responsibilities as assigned by project management.

Required Skills/Qualifications:

  • The candidate must have Turkish nationality.
  • A lawyer with solid academic foundation in legal studies, particularly with a focus on Turkish and Syrian laws.
  • Demonstrated fluency in English and Turkish languages (reading and writing) to effectively communicate and provide legal services.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in family law, immigration law, or related fields.
  • Deep understanding of issues affecting women, particularly those related to domestic violence and human rights.
  • Ability to conduct thorough legal research, draft precise legal documents, and advocate effectively on behalf of clients.
  • Strong ability to interact and communicate with clients, colleagues, and external partners.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with integrity.
  • Commitment to social justice and women’s empowerment.
