Position: Logistics Assistant/Tractor & Machinery Operator

Supervisor: Transport Officer

Location of activity: Dadaab/Garissa

**Duration: 10 Months (**March 2025 to December 2025)

Peace Winds Japan (PWJ) is a Japanese Non-Governmental Organization established in 1996. PWJ has been providing humanitarian and development assistance for people affected by forced displacement and natural disasters in more than 20 countries in the world.

PWJ launched its mission in Kenya in 2012 and has been implementing projects funded by UN agencies, the government of Japan and other donors in sectors including but not limited to the shelter, WASH, Food security, Livelihood, and Logistics support to improve the living living standards of refugees and host populations while promoting peaceful coexistence and self-reliance among the people affected by natural or human-made disasters in and adjacent to Dadaab refugee and Kakuma refugee camps and Kalobeyei Integrated Settlement.

PWJ is a UNHCR partner responsible for WASH, warehouse management, Motor vehicle Service Unit, Centralized fleet and Shelter for Dadaab Refugee Operations.

TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Operate heavy machinery safely and effectively.
  • Advising workshop as well as transport Officer on service and requirements.
  • Maintain an up-to-date fueling record and log for the tractor and the allocated vehicles.
  • Scheduling tractor and machinery operations in liaison with the WASH & Shelter Department.
  • Haul or lift to load and offload heavy machines such as generators and containers.
  • Bush clearing & grading of Impassable roads within the Camps
  • Backfilling of filled dumping sites at the refugee Camps.
  • Assist Program or centralized fleet in driving duties.

Collaboration and Networking

  • Work together with WASH Team, Shelter Department, and fellow logistics team members in ensuring timely support in assigned tasks and responsibilities.
  • Collaborate with other agency staff in the field to improve service delivery.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

  • Minimum of Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE)
  • Valid Category G Operator license and clean operating record.
  • Valid driving licence for the following classes B,C,C1.
  • Certified Plant Operator from a recognized institution.
  • Fully conversant with operating a tractor with front loader and backhoe.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in heavy machinery operation.
  • Ability to multi-task and operate both pneumatic and hydraulic equipment’s.
  • Valid Certificate of good conduct.

Language Skills

  • English: professional fluency.
  • Kiswahili: Native/Advanced.
