ALIMA at TCHAD

The history of ALIMA programs in N’Djamena / TCHAD

With prevalence rates of acute malnutrition regularly above the Capital alert thresholds, malnutrition represents a major public health issue in N’Djamena. ALIMA and Alert Santé have been involved since 2013 in the management of malnutrition in urban areas, both in ambulatory and in hospitalization. In 2021, the program was implemented in 4 of the 5 health districts of N’Djamena, and covers 10 areas of responsibility, more than 64,000 children under the age of five. In the regional dynamic to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of programs to deal with malnutrition,ALIMA/AS in collaboration with the Ministry of Health implemented in 2022 the OptiMA ( approach Optimizing the management of Malnutrition Aigüe ) in 3 areas of responsibility of the health district of the 9th arrondissement. This approach, based on the care of children suffering from acute malnutrition on the basis of simplified approaches, made it possible to provide care for 5,776 children.. The project also supports the strengthening of the community approach, through training activities « PB Mothers », awareness-raising activities or even through the PECADOM strategy. Following the declaration of the COVID-19 pandemic, Health Alert and ALIMA supported the HD of Farcha, and continue to support health structures in compliance with infection prevention and control standards ( PCI ).Officially integrated into the UNT in 2017 and renewed in April 2020, the multi-year UNT-School project ( 2020-2023 ) allows theoretical and practical training in PCIMA of health professionals selected by the Directorate of Nutrition and Food Technology ( DNTA ).
