Logistics Manager At Médecins Sans Frontières

Planning, coordinating and monitoring all logistics related activities in the capital and providing support to medical assistance activities, according to MSF protocols and standards in order to ensure an optimal running of the project.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Assisting the Logistics Coordinator in the definition and follow-up of logistics activities in the capital
  • Ensuring and monitoring the implementation of logistics/technical activities in the capital including the following:
  • Logistics: construction/rehabilitation, transport of goods and staff, communications, water and sanitation, vehicles and engines, equipment/installation and infrastructures, communications, installation and maintenance of functional office space(s) and lodging facilities
  • WHS: implementation of water, health and sanitation activities
  • Defining and monitoring technical aspects of the project risk reduction policy, transport, communication, protection, identification and preparation of the technical aspects of the project security policy and guidelines, evacuation plan and contingency plan, performing day-to day monitoring of the application of security rules and reporting to the Logistics Coordinator any problem that may arise. Create an appropriate environment to facilitate secure exchange of information.
  • Ensuring technical reference for all logistics/technical issues in the project and providing coaching to logistics staff under his/her responsibility. Ensuring all staff in the mission are properly briefed about use of communication tools
  • Implementing all administrative related activities linked to logistics (internal requests, insurances, vehicle contracts, etc.)
  • Is responsible for the Logistics Software managing assets (Memo)
  • Coordinating the mission activities for the technical families under his/her supervision and defining plan of actions for the year through chronogram of activities, field visits, trainings. Participate in monthly reports according to MSF guidelines
  • Budget planning for all activities under his/her responsibility and ensure submission to the Logistics Coordinator with supportive documents
  • Participating in the planning and implementation, together with the Logistics Coordinator, the Project Coordinator and the HR Coordinator, the HR associated processes (recruitment, training, briefing/debriefing, evaluation, detection of potential, development and communication) of the logistics staff in the capital in order to ensure both the sizing and the amount of knowledge required to correctly perform all logistics activities
  • Closely accompany the staff under his/her supervision by proper coaching and defining road maps in line with the new ways of working
  • Due to the nature of MSF, should be available to cover emergency response or any logitsics support needs in any of the projects

Requirements:

Education

Technical Diploma/Degree in an Engineering discipline or related studies.

Knowledge & Experience

Mandatory: Minimum of at least 2 years working experience in Logistics related activities. Previous experience of at least 2 years with MSF or other NGOs in developing countries in a role managing large teams

Desirable:. Possess technical expertise in one or more logistics domains. Exposure working in emergencies is a plus.

Languages

Fluency in English and Kiswahili
