OBJECTIVES ATTACHED TO THE POSITION:
Ensure the transport of authorized personnel and goods efficiently and safely.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (indicative and non-exhaustive list):

  1. Ensure the transport of senior WFP officials, senior United Nations officials or visitors, and possibly translate simple exchanges with people speaking the local language, and ensure the delivery and collection of equipment while respecting the itineraries authorized authorities and United Nations regulations relating to safety and security in order to provide services safely and efficiently.
  2. Schedule and establish routes and schedules for other drivers to help provide efficient transportation services. Support the fleet manager in transportation planning and management.
  3. Greet official personnel and visitors at the airport or other points of entry and provide them with basic assistance to help them complete customary visa and customs formalities so that they can reach safely and safely to authorized destinations.
  4. Maintain the vehicle maintenance log strictly up to date and communicate to the line manager a daily report of their mechanical condition, in order to ensure efficient and cost-effective vehicle use and fuel consumption. Collect fuel and systematically use driver cards and record the fuel consumption of the assigned vehicle using an app. Record maintenance operations for all vehicles in the dedicated Platform.
  5. Effectively plan and coordinate the maintenance of WFP vehicles and check that all travel authorizations are on board and that the vehicles are well equipped with mandatory equipment, and check that the equipment on board is in good condition and ensures the delivery of services safely and efficiently.
  6. 6.Be the point of contact for all drivers ensuring that services are provided with the greatest care. Escalate issues to line manager and provide feedback to colleagues. Comply with applicable rules and regulations regarding field missions and in the event of an accident, and immediately report to the line manager any problems that arise in order to seek instructions and facilitate informed decisions on the course of action to be taken. .
  7. Provide advice on all transport-related activities: planning, vehicle acquisition, technical specifications, specifications for the establishment of LTA’s (long term agreements) related to vehicle management, etc.
  8. Outside of driving duties, perform simple related administrative tasks (e.g. filing, photocopying or archiving, store maintenance) as necessary, including dispatching mail and paying telephone or other bills , to provide administrative support.
  9. Other activites.

Training:

Completion of secondary education. Valid driver’s license authorizing use of assigned vehicle in compliance with local regulations.

Experience:

At least three (3) years of experience as a driver, preferably in an embassy, ​​United Nations system agency or other international organization, and good driving history. Experience driving vehicles of different makes and models, including vans and other types of motorized vehicles (all categories license). Experience in defensive driving desirable.

LANGUAGES:

Mastery (level C) of the French language and intermediate (level B) English.

Knowledge and skills:

  • Knowledge of the rules and practices to be respected as a driver, local roads/waterways and conditions as well as safety issues.
  • Good understanding of transportation services and ability to coordinate routes and schedules of other drivers.
  • Knowledge of the Highway Code/Navigation Code.
  • Knowledge of safety standards and equipment (fire extinguishers, floatable safety accessories, etc.).
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety regulations, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to assess the good mechanical condition of vehicles and carry out small repairs.
  • Knowledge of vehicle loading capacity and other parameters.
  • Knowledge of and ability to use radio, email, telephone and other applications.
  • Basic emergency assistance skills and knowledge of first aid.
  • Ability to listen to the beneficiaries of services and to demonstrate a great sense of responsibility, courtesy and tact.
