Caritas Spain
We are the official confederation of charitable and social action entities of the Catholic Church, established 75 years ago by the Spanish Episcopal Conference. Our mission is to promote the integral development of individuals and communities, especially the poorest and most excluded.
Caritas Spain is made up of 70 diocesan Caritas and more than 5,000 parish Caritas, and belongs to Caritas Internationalis, an international confederation with 162 member organisations around the world. We have a large number of people, most of them volunteers, who help us to be close to people who experience the injustice of poverty.
We promote a more inclusive society and a fairer economic model in Spain and around the world. To do this, we analyse the reality of social exclusion; we raise awareness of the realities of injustice; we denounce the causes of poverty, demanding access to rights, decent living conditions and opportunities for comprehensive human development; we encourage the empowerment of people to defend their rights; we encourage the commitment of the whole of society to build a more supportive and fraternal world.
Our commitment extends beyond Spain, supporting projects in more than 50 countries in different regions of the world, in the following priority lines of action: strengthening of National Caritas, humanitarian action, peace building, right to food, human mobility and integral ecology.
Cáritas Española puts into practice the principle of equal opportunities between women and men in all its positions, and is also committed to respecting its internal policies for safeguarding people in its selection processes, promoting transparent, fair and inclusive processes.
